The Book Walker, La Jolla, California. Adam is a renowned debater, expected to win a national championship before he heads to college. But while the Ivy League gave her knowledge and opportunities, its privileged world felt far from her reality, and she moved back home to help her fellow rural Kentucky women by providing free legal services.

When Bill Ivy was fatally injured while practising for the East German Grand Prix in July 1969, motorcycle racing lost one of its greatest ever competitors.  As a tribute to Bill, leading bike author Mick Walker has written Bill Ivy: The Will to Win.  Bill Ivy was certainly not only a great rider, but a unique personality.  He had a steely determination to succeed, an almost fearless courage, which meant he never backed away from a challenge, a love of fashion and fast cars – and although only 5 feet 2 inches tall, he more than made up for his lack of stature, by his immense upper body strength, which meant he could cope with any size of motorcycle from a 50cc Itom to a 750cc Norton-engined matchless G15 CSR.  It was as a member of the Yamaha factory team that he not only became world champion, but also set the first 100mph TT lap record on a 125cc machine – only a decade after Bob McIntyre had first achieved his feat on a machine with an engine size four times larger!

I lived in north-east Oklahoma as a young boy and somehow dispite this, Bill Ivy still found me. He was a rock-star of motorcycle racing in his time. But the book tells it all so well ... man, could Bill ever ride. To ride a 125cc over the Isle of Man, which was just a little less than 38 miles around and average over 100mph ( "the ton" ) is still just beyond belief ... and all this in 1968 !! He rode against the very best in his time on machines that were very prone to "sticking". Two cycle multi-cylinder motors were new and deadly. But the story told here is also about alot of wonderful people: Mike Hailwood,Luigi Taveri,Jim Redman,Giacomo Agostini ... and English local talent like Derek Minter,Tommy Robb,Dennis Ainsworth. The book has so many priceless pictures mixed in, of people who are mostly gone now after 42 years but who were so exciting, to a far-off kid like me in the 1960's. The book covers Bill Ivy's life from start to finish ... and although I knew what was going to happen in the story, I couldn't put the book down. Mick Walker wrote a wonderful book on Mike Hailwood, but this one on Bill Ivy may be his best. After reading these two books you just feel like you could have sat down with a beer with Mike and Bill and talked stories by the hour. We lost Bill at 27 years old in 1969 ... he was doing what he loved ... I missed then, about reading of his battles on the bikes with the likes of many world champions ... Personally, I still miss Bill Ivy. The book takes us back to a time when we were all younger, and Life, was a motorcycle to throw a leg over, and dream of the likes of Bill Ivy, World Champion.
