This book provides the first comprehensive critical survey of the microstructural characteristics of liquid metals which determine properties of viscosity. Why is ISBN important? ISBN. The 13-digit and 10-digit formats both work.

General properties of liquid metals are given in Chapter 1. Chapter 2 is an. Chapter 2 is an introduction to the structure of liquid metals and alloys. Two fundamental quantities in the theory of liquids, the pair distribution function and the pair potential, are described. In particular, a detailed description of the pair distribution function is presented, because an understanding of the physical properties of liquids should be based on a fundamental understanding of their atomic arrangement. Chapter 3 is concerned with the density of liquid metals

Takamichi Iida, Roderick I. Guthrie - The Thermophysical Properties of Metallic Liquids: Volume 2: Predictive Models. Volume 2 considers the essential conditions for a model to be truly predictive. The authors use a statistical approach to rate the validity of the various predictive models that have been previously used for evaluating various thermophysical properties. On the basis of this assessment, the authors have predicted values for the thermophysical properties of elemental metallic liquids, which are lacking in experimental data

This book provides the first comprehensive critical survey of the microstructural characteristics of liquid metals which determine properties of viscosity, surface tension, density, heat capacity, thermal conductivity, electrical resistivity, diffusion, and velocity of sound transmission.

Takamichi Iida, Professor Emeritus, Osaka University, and Roderick I. Guthrie, Director of the McGill Metals Processing . He obtained a Doctorate in Materials Science, studying the physical properties of metallic liquids. Guthrie, Director of the McGill Metals Processing Centre, & Sir William A. Macdonald Professor of Metallurgy, McGill University, Montreal. Takamichi Iida is the professor Emeritus of Materials Science and Processing at Osaka University. On the basis of the metrology of liquids, he also co-developed a viscometer for characterizing slag viscosities in continuous casting machines for the Japanese steel industry.

Takamichi Iida is the professor Emeritus of Materials Science and Processing at Osaka University. He was awarded the Meritorious Honor Prize (in 1982), and the Okada Science and Technology Prize (in 2002).

I. Guthrie, Takamichi Iida. Virtually all metals are produced by a process involving a liquid stage. The microstructure, and hence macroscopic properties of the final solid metal, are heavily influenced by the properties of the liquid metal. A proper understanding of liquid metal properties is also essential for the efficient management of refining and alloying processes. This book gives a comprehensive survey of theories, empirical relations and experimental data on the physical properties of liquid metals.

This book provides the first comprehensive critical survey of the microstructural characteristics of liquid metals which determine properties of viscosity, surface tension, density, heat capacity, thermal conductivity, electrical resistivity, diffusion, and velocity of sound transmission. The experimental techniques used to obtain these data are also reviewed. The result is a valuable set of correlations and reference data which enable the reader to understand the basic phenomena underlying the properties of liquid metals. As such, the book will be invaluable for metallurgists and materials engineers working in this area.
