Would like to have seen more on the F units as well as pics. This is a good synopsis of vintage units. There is not a lot of literature covering this time period of railroads unless you go after specific Road names. For what it is this book is well worth having in your library. Even if you are a steam buff, as I am, there is still a lot of good railroad information here.

I would recommend this book to any one interested in railroad history.

Moswyn
Interesting book with a brief history of most of the 1st generation diesels. a lot of 3/4 view type of photos but not for each locomotive discussed.

Mike Schafer really knows his stuff. All of his books are top-notch. This one has some very nice color photos of vintage GMD, Alco,Baldwin, and F-M diesels. A must for the railroad fan book collection. Check out classicstreamliners.com, too.

Nice mix of text and photos. Did not cover all the North American diesel loco's that I would call "vintage," but did a nice job of covering selected models. Worth the investment for railroad aficianados and model railroaders. Will use this book for future reference for my model railroading projects.

This is an excellent book for train nerds. It's fascinating to read about the older locos. Well written, informative, nice photos.

Excellent Book! Full of great photos and information. Perfect for any Railfan. Great Value!

Locomotives covered by the book were a little older than what I was interested in, however, still, a very informative GOOD book.
