This was one of the worst books I have ever read. I picked it up because I live in Parke County and thought it would be fun to read a book set in my town. Big mistake! The characters are shallow and hollow. The dialogue is stilted. People talk to each other and think thoughts that couldn't possibly pass for reality. And, the worst part, the plot twists. The coincidences that happen whenever and wherever the protagonist appears are so unbelievable that I found myself wondering how the author thought anyone could even pretend to believe any of it! A covered bridge collapsing?
Did I mention subplots thrown in for no apparent reason? I always pass on any book I have finished either by selling it on Amazon, donating it, or just passing it along to someone else to enjoy. Not this one!

I love Colleen Coble's books, and this one is no exception. She writes conversations that flow with ease so that you feel you're right there, part of the story. Anathema is both a love story and a mystery. It deals with the Amish community and their beliefs; with the problems, pain, emotional struggles and uncertainty a battered wife deals with; the search for a child lost years before; and the horrible consequences of hatred and the search for revenge. Through it all, you hope for justice, love and God's goodness and truth to shine through at the end -- of course it does, but... maybe not just as you expect.

This is the best Amish mystery I have ever read, and I have read a lot. The plot is excellent, and the characters are really believable. Using the quilts as a backstory has been done before, but never so ingeniously. Read this book!!!

This is not a book I would have chosen, but I was encouraged to read it by someone else. I can honestly say it is now my favorite book of Colleen Coble's. It has a lot of Amish traditions with a good story line to go with it, a mixture of two completely different worlds coming together. I found myself wanting more before the storyline was revealed. I did not guess the bad person in this book. I also like that living in Indiana, I have been to the locations in the book.

Romance, suspense wrapped up all in one will keep you turning the pages. Another great book by Colleen Coble!

This is not a combination that I would have ever expected. Add in arson, kidnapping, and abuse and you have a plot with many twists and turns. This is a well written attention grabbing story.

One of the best fiction books that I have ever read. It held my attention with all of it's unexpected twists. Great Christian book!

It has been awhile since I read a book that was hard to put down. This was that book for me. It is definitely now a favorite of mine from this author. Great character development and written in such a way that the reader wants to keep reading. I'd love to read another book by her with this population
