First published in 1889 (not 1890 as stated on the fly leaf here), Carroll intended ‘The Nursery Alice’ to be read ‘by children aged from nought to five’. He re-wrote the original in a simple, abbreviated, form ‘to be thumbed, cooed over, dog-eared and rumpled’ by ‘the dimpled darlings that fill (the) nursery' ; but the principal attraction today probably lies in the twenty coloured illustrations from Tenniel’s originals.

First, the review that states this book is misprinted is incorrect. This version of The Nursery Alice - by English Rose Publishing - does not have the misprinted quotation marks. The Mediamorphosis version of this book, however, DOES have the misprinted quotation marks and should be avoided.

That said, this (the English Rose Publishing) version of The Nursery Alice is fantastic. The Nursery Alice condenses some of the major elements of Alice in Wonderland into small two to three page "Chapters" with beautifully colored illustrations by John Tenniel.

While this version of Alice doesn't contain any of Lewis Carroll's wonderful poems it's a good introduction to Alice for children 0-5.

Love this! Got it when I was pregnant with my first kiddo, and started reading it to him when he was a baby. Can't get much better than a children's version of Alice – one of my favorite childhood stories! It was written some time ago, so some of the language doesn't roll easily off the tongue, but I really wouldn't have it any other way.

The book is nicely made; the story's all there...but every set of quotation marks is misprinted. It's maddening. At the beginning of every character's speech, the quotation marks appear BELOW the word, instead of at the top left. ,,Like this!" I bought the book for young readers, so I'm returning it. ,,Right now!"

I didn't pick up on it, but you can actually see the misprinted quotation marks right on the front cover: ,,Alice"
