Finally, tortoise and hare schedule a rematch. Combine this book with Caroline Repchuk's The Race (Chronicle, 2002) and a traditional retelling for a zippy storytime.

Finally, tortoise and hare schedule a rematch. Although the hare has learned little over time, the tortoise has developed a scheme to ensure that once the race is over, he can live in blissful, anonymous peace. Puns and humorous references pepper the lively story, and Glass's illustrations complement the tale's zany tone.

Glass's scenes of disheveled-looking animals in rumpled clothing create an appropriately comic setting for this Aesopian sequel. As Hare is subject to continual dissing from Pete R. Rabbit, lucky Rabbit Foote, Rabbit E. Lee and others for losing a race to a tortoise, and retiring, peace-loving Tortoise is discovering that being voted "Most Admired Reptile" isn't all it's cracked up to be, the two agree to a rematch

Bernstein's book shows us just what happened to that victorious tortoise and his foe. The hare is miserable, he can't show is face anywhere. He's desperate for a rematch, to clear his name. This story written by Dan Berstein and illustrated by Andrew Glass, follows the lives Hare and the Tortoise after the big race. Hare is consistently mocked by others of his kind for letting the Tortoise win. He feels ashamed and wants another chance. Alternatively, Tortoise is revered by other tortoises and animals for finally showing up a Hare.

Ever since the lazy hare lost the Great Race, he has had trouble getting any kind of respect. Meanwhile, the champion tortoise regrets ever beating the hare. He is taunted by Pete R. Rabbit and mocked by Hare E. Plodder, the slowest rabbit around. He can't stand the amount of press and attention he is getting. He just wants to return to his quiet life at the shell station. It seems that a second race would benefit both parties. See all 2 brand new listings.

The tortoise wore a backpack, and the hare wore a necklace made of alarm clocks. This book was published in 2006 by Holiday House and was illustrated by Andrew Glass. You’ll have to read the book to see what this clever tortoise did, but suffice it to say, the hare got his purple pajamas after all, and the tortoise got to return to his life of anonymity and peace. I enjoyed the cute puns that littered this book and the darling illustrations.

The Tortoise and the Hare" is one of Aesop's Fables and is numbered 226 in the Perry Index. The fable itself is a variant of a common folktale theme in which ingenuity and trickery (rather than doggedness) are employed to overcome a stronger opponent. The story concerns a Hare who ridicules a slow-moving Tortoise. Tired of the Hare's arrogant behavior, the Tortoise challenges him to a race.

The Tortoise and the Hare is the third Living Books PC-ROM Game. Being based on the famous fable by Aesop, it was retold by Mark Schlitchting as an original story for the Living Books series (hence the first Living Books game to not be based on any existing books), and the CD-ROM along with its included paperback storybook were both released in 1993.

Tired of being a celebrity, the champion tortoise challenges the lazy hare to race again, this time with the intention of losing, so that he can return to his quiet life at the shell station.

Great little book about a rematch. Why a rematch? sometimes when you get something you really want, there are consequences you don't expect. Both the tortoise and the hare want a rematch for different reasons. The kindness of the tortoise is admirable - and he "fixes" the outcome of the 2nd race so his now-friend, the hare, can get what he wants. Full of puns and plays on words, many over my 2nd grader's heads, it is a humorous tale that had us all laughing. The one thing I did not like, was the calling of the hare a "loser".

But enjoyable for the kids too. This retelling of the Aesopian tale is clever and wickedly funny. The illustrations are a perfect complement to Bernstein's sardonic writing style. A winner for any picture book libraray!
