As is probably obvious by the energetic font of the all-pink front cover, this is really a book for preteens you'd find at the school book fair. It's a short, sugary, very easy read. There's really not much information about Blake Lively in it that you can't also find on Wikipedia or in interviews, but it does put the events of her early career in a straight-forward and chronological order.

I'm in my early twenties and I ordered this book because I can't help but find Blake Lively fascinating. She is one of those extraordinary personalities who possess a powerful, yet indefinable element. Between her surreal beauty and strong presence, she's the sort of magnetic figure who just commands attention. So for admittedly frivolous reasons, I wanted to learn more about her.

However, Blake is a private person, and is not known for making personal or self-revealing statements, past the point of explaining her hobbies. As such, this book is also minimal in depth. Most, if not all, of the information is received second-hand from interviews or websites. It's written in a fluffy and accessible style for younger girls and teenagers. If you can shut off the serious and self-aware part of your brain, this book can be kind of fun and reminiscent of teen magazines you used to read in middle school.

Statements made by Lively are never much deeper than, "I have a wonderful family," and "My style icons are so-and-so and so-and-so." Which are fine things to say, except that there aren't also more interesting comments from her. (There are interviews elsewhere where Lively proves more dimensional and thoughtful). The book also seems to have the aim of presenting her as an acceptable role-model for girls, focusing on her down-to-earth, hard-working, and responsible personality. This approach serves as an intentional and obvious disclaimer that while she often plays gritty and morally-ambiguous characters on screen, "she's so totally not a stuck-up party-girl in real life, and you shouldn't be either!" --Not a real quote. While these characteristics seem absolutely true of Lively, I would've liked a bit more substance than that.

The book is short, 120 pages, and can be read in an hour or so. It was published in 2008, so before she starred in movies like "The Town," or "Hick." It covers her early life, the events surrounding her decision to become an actress, and the early years of her career, ("The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants," "Gossip Girl,"). The last few chapters are random, and include a brief description of her fashion style, a quiz to see which of Lively's character you're most like, and "The Blake Basics," (birthday, hair color, eye color, favorite this, favorite that). The last page is a list of websites for seeking out more Blake Lively information, (probably also the book's bibliography), with a disclaimer to "always be careful when searching online. Never give out any personal information..." It reminds me that I'm twenty-something and shouldn't own this book...

Also included is a decent-sized, glossy, full-color poster that's reversible. It's really a cool extra if you'd like a poster of Blake Lively. I have to note that one side consists of smaller pictures of Blake, and one of these is actually Taylor Momsen from "Gossip Girl," not Blake. It's not distracting, though. The photos appear to be taken from magazines or screen-shots of "Gossip Girl," but they're decent photos.

For younger girls interested in Blake Lively, I'm sure this book would be a great gift for them. If you're above the age of 16, just be aware of what it is and don't expect too much. You will likely learn something new. Over all, my point is this: The fact that I've used this many words to review this book is an absurd thing, but it's okay to do absurd things sometimes.

I liked learning more about the actress behind my favorite GG character, but it seemed as if some of the material was assumed. The quotes were very awesome though, and there were a lot of them. I wish there would have been more pictures and I wish it talked about how she does her hair!! LOL I love Blake Lively's hair.
