What I now understand is his impact on: 1) Creating the expansion of the country through the Louisiana Purchase and ultimately the impetus to include the lands from the East to the West coast. If the American Revolution, with its secularism, its separation of powers, its Bill of Rights, and its gradual enfranchisement of those excluded and worse at its founding, has often betrayed itself at home and abroad, it nevertheless remains the only revolution that still retains any power to inspire.
