Medusa was one of three sisters, the gorgons, but she was the only mortal one. Some versions say all three were born as monsters, but the predominant myths had them as gorgeous maidens. Medusa was so beautiful that Poseidon was crazy about her, but she didn’t care about him; Poseidon turned her and her sisters into monsters with live snakes covering their heads. Medusa kept her beautiful face but everything else was so monstrous. And whoever dared to look into her face ended up being turned into stone.

The Greek myths have a universal appeal, beyond the time and physical place in which they were created. But many are firmly rooted in specific landscapes: the city of Thebes and mountain range Cithaeron dominate the tale of Oedipus; the city of Mycenae broods over the fates of Agamemnon and Electra; while Knossos boasts the scene of Theseus’ slaying of the Minotaur. This book is the perfect choice if you want a simple and detailed guide on the ancient Greeks’ myths and legends that have survived the ages for so long that no one knows what truths are intertwined with the legends. You will uncover all this in Greek Mythology book.

Create comics and graphic novels that jump off the screen. Here, Perseus learns the truth about Medusa and her sisters, Stheno and Euryale: how they were victims of the petty rivalry between Athena and Poseidon, and how she only turned to stone people who wanted to kill her and use her head as a weapon. He does NOT kill Medusa, and in fact falls in love with her instead. See here for my full folder of stuff based on Perseus and Medusa, along with other Greek myths: ww.

My five-year-old son and I enjoyed this version of the Perseus and Medusa story. The pictures are engaging and the book is a sturdy paperback. The format is "graphic novel", i.e., comic strip and the writing is campy but we just had fun with it. I would highly recommend this book for parents looking to interest their children in the Greek myths.

I love the comic strip format of this book. My 7 year old son will love it! I can't wait to give it to him.
