This book introduces us to Katie Morag, her Isle of Struay (Isle of Coll), home and all her family and neighbors. The more you read of Katie Morag, the more you enjoy all her stories. One of the stories involves Grannie Island becoming sick and Granma Mainland coming to help. The two grandmothers are opposites and don't always get along. There is a porridge recipe, there are fun poems - one about the loss of 'Ted' in the sea. Katie's teddy is retrieved and Mairi shows his drying out process. These stories and poems may sound inconsequential, but in her able hands and with her lovely watercolors, they are completely entertaining.

For those new to the series, Katie Morag is a young girl who lives on a small island named Struay in the Scottish Inner-Hebrides. If you're about to grab a map, be warned, you won't find it there. Struay is a fictitious name given to the author's home island, Coll. Katie Morag has many adventures, always dressed in her skirt, jumper and welly boots - even when she's going to ballet!

Compendiums are a great way to add to your child's bookshelf, and this is a great collection of Katie Morag stories. It has three or four stories together with poems and songs.

My daughter loves the series and we'll keep on collecting.

We always love Katie Morag and I love having collections to keep in the car or bring on a plane for my son instead of bringing individual copies of her adventures to keep him occupied.

Drelajurus
Very entertaining, good art and fun story line.

Mr_Mole

I first was introduced to the Katie Morag character as I was looking at children's books at a bookstore in Scotland. Over the years, I've bought most of the Katie Morag storybooks. I'm a 2nd grade teacher, and my students can't get enough of Katie Morag! This particular book, "The Big Katie Morag Storybook" is a whole collection of stories, poems, and even a recipe. The illustrations, as in all the Katie Morag books, are so sweet and full of detail, capturing the interest of even the most hesitant reader. The stories stand alone as great children's literature, but they also capture a slice of British culture and show what it's like to live on an island.
