Other books by Astrid Lindgren. Bill Bergson, Master Detective Bill Bergson Lives Dangerously. But there was no father to be seen, nor any mother either.

Other books by Astrid Lindgren. Mio, My Son. Pippi Goes On Board. Pippi In The South Seas. Pippi Moves into Villa Villekulla. w. ay out at the end of a tiny little town was an old overgrown garden, and in the garden was an old house, and in the house lived Pippi Longstocking. Annika said anxiously, "Do you live here all alone?" "Of course not!" said Pippi. Mr. Nilsson and the horse live here to. "Yes, but I mean, don't you have any mother or father here?"

When it was first published in 1945 the book about Pippi Longstocking created quite the havoc during bedtime stories across the land, and since then generations of children all over the world have come to know and love her. Pippi is in the great tradition of children's protagonists who subvert the adult world, whether by questioning it, like Alice, or simply throwing it into chaos, like Dr Seuss's Cat in the Hat.

Astrid Lindgren (1907-2002) created the character of Pippi in 1945. Lindgren was awarded the Hans Christian Andersen Medal for her contribution to international children's literature in 1958. Lauren Child, the award-winning creator of the characters Charlie and Lola, has won the Smarties Gold Award and the Kate Greenaway Medal. She lives in Seattle, Washington.

And from Astrid Lindgren bounded fabulous Pippi Longstocking, the strongest girl in the world with her . Lindgren had many strong female friendships and Andersen’s book is full of powerful, independent women. Lindgren rocketed to fame and to fortune.

And from Astrid Lindgren bounded fabulous Pippi Longstocking, the strongest girl in the world with her carrot-coloured pigtails and her freckles, her pet monkey, her mismatched stockings, her good-humoured disregard of authority, her spirit of misrule and joy. Her roots were in the war (the first book, Pippi Longstocking, was published in 1945) and a decade of fear, but Pippi was a cheerfully outspoken, brave-hearted pacifist who protected the weak and stood her ground against bullies.

Pippi Longstocking, translated by Tiina Nunnally, illustrated by Lauren Child. Astrid Lindgren has created a fun, hilarious character. The humor in the book would be an excellent example to use for reading or writing. Pippilotta Viktualia Rullgardina Krusmynta Efraimsdotter Långstrump - Pippilotta Comestibles Windowshade Curlymint Ephraimsdaughter Longstocking, in this particular English translation - first appeared on the scene in 1945, and I think it would not be an exaggeration to say that she took the world of children's literature by storm. This is a book that encourages reading and rereading and engages almost every child.

Her second book, Pippi Longstocking, which she wrote as a present for her daughter's tenth birthday, was published in 1945.

As a child, Astrid loved to read, particularly books which had girls as the heroine. She loved Anne of Green Gables and the Pollyanna books. Her second book, Pippi Longstocking, which she wrote as a present for her daughter's tenth birthday, was published in 1945. She also received numerous other honours and awards including the International Book Award.

Now, Astrid Lindgrenas best-selling book has been given a sparkling new translation by the awardwinning Tiina Nunnally and delightful full-color illustrations by the critically acclaimed Lauren Child.

Book cake. Exactly as expected. I got it for my 6 year old daughter.. We read a chapter a night.. She loved it! The vocabulary is a little difficult because it's British and also old.. So a lot of the phrases she did not understand. It Def uses very adult vocabulary. Many of the paragraphs are describing sceneries and such with difficult language.. But mostly she understood and what she didn't I explained. In short this book is timeless and every child should. Read it.

This book is the best. It's hilarious. It's got the perfect sense of humor for about ages 5-11 or so. Brilliant.

My 7-year-old daughter and I are reading this book together. She is enjoying the story laughing at Pippi's antics just like I did as a kid some 50 years ago. Yeah I'm an old dad lol

I adored Pippi as a kid! And this novel- more a set of short stories- is great.

Pippi is very anarchic, and demonstrates the capabilities of 9-year-olds, albeit in an exaggerated way. She is kind, stands up top both adult and child bullies, and requires everyone to treat her like herself, rather than an example of a class.

This is a heroine for both boys and girls- my husband also loved these stories as a kid.

Very recommended!

Pippy is strong, funny, self-reliant, and so entertaining. Boys and girls alike will enjoy all the Pippi books and come to love her hijinks and kindness. I read the series to my son when he was five. He would ask for one more chapter time after time. These are great first chapter books to introduce to young readers, but probably too challenging for them to read alone. Don't miss this classic character!

I just started reading Pippi to my 5 year old and she is HOOKED. Her first real chapter book and every night she's ready for me to read the very next chapter. She can't wait to learn to read "properly" so that she can enjoy the text for herself, in the meantime we're having loads of fun laying in bed together and chuckling over the antics of that mischievous redhead!

My daughters love reading about Pippi and her unique view of the world. This is a great bedtime book as each chapter reads as a story all its own. My 6 year old loves Pippi so much that she dressed as her for "Dress as Your Favorite Character Day" at school. This book should be in every family's collection, especially if you have little girls like I do.

Fanstastic, engaging, and funny book, enjoyable by kids 5-10 and their parents, indeed. My two boys (6 & 8) are rolling on the floor every time we read a chapter, and quoting form it too. Love it.
