The Shadow Club Rising – Book Description. The new kid, Alec Smartz, is so talented-at everything-he makes the entire school population feel inferior. When Alec falls victim to a series of nasty pranks, everyone assumes that Jared, the former leader of the Shadow Club, is to blame. The Shadow Club doesn't exist anymore. The group of second-best kids used to play anonymous practical jokes on their rivals, until things spiraled out of control. Now Jared and the ex-Shadow Club members are having a hard time shaking their reputation. As an English professor and an avid reader, it's been a source of distress that one of my grandchildren doesn't like to read. He is fast-paced and doesn't like to slow down long enough to read; like so many of my students, he'll "wait for the movie." Recently he told me that his class at school had been reading THE SHADOW CLUB and that he had been reading ahead because he loved it. I bought it for him on the spot and purchased THE SHADOW CLUB RISING, the sequel, and two other books by Shusterman as well. He was excited to have them and has told me at length what he likes about the books: the constant action and drama, the characters sympathetic to his age group (11), etc. I thank Neal Shusterman for turning my grandson on to reading at long last!

Neal Shusterman always delivers. His original Shadow Club went to places where not a lot of YA novels go. This sequel definitely does the same. It asks some really dark questions and pushes its main characters into some challenging places without ever forcing the readers to lose sympathy. Insanely readable. I had high expectations for this one, and it surpassed them.

I couldn't put it down! What a great plot - especially for teens. It really lets you see what could go on if people decide to band together and target others.

Opithris

If you haven't read the first one it was amazing read that one first if your interested in it. I enjoyed going on the puzzling life of Jared Mercer. His problem of trying to get out of the situations created nice contrast in the story line and has plenty of variety.

I used this in my reading classes after the Shadow Club. Students were anxious to read the sequel. Shusterman is a good writer.

Gosar

This book had me laughing, and crying, and wondering about right and wrong. It raises the topic of an ex bully who has gathered a reputation of being terrible person. For a deeper look at the gray area between right and wrong. Do yourself a favor and read this book. (This is a sequel)

Chankane

With an intriguing plot, the author can really convey the message of teamwork, friendship, trustworthiness, and betrayal. I was glad to have read the book that followed after The Shadow Club because it was a great way to end it.

One of the best books I have ever read. Very emotional, and unpredictable. They should make a 3 book! Very good
