The Boxcar Children Series was created by Gertrude Chandler Warner, a teacher, when she realized that there were few, if any, books for children that were both easy and fun to read. She drew on her own experiences in writing the mysteries. As a child, she had spent hours watching trains near her home, and often dreamed about what it would be like to live in a caboose or freight car. In each story, she chose a special setting and introduced unpredictable, unusual or eccentric characters, to help highlight the Aldens’ independence and resourcefulness

Do you think Grandfather is lonely this week without us? kindhearted Violet couldn’t help wondering. I’m sure Grandfather misses us, Jessie said after a moment’s thought.

My daughter and I have been reading through all the Boxcar Children books and this was a really good one. The clues the kids were given were well thought out and fun for my daughter to try and solve. Next, we are going to try making our own fortune cookie!

I believe I made the wrong decision in picking this book to read. The mystery the characters were trying to solve was a little boring. The author didn't add enough detail in each clue to keep me guessing. I could almost always figure out what was coming next. The clues were way to easy to solve. For example, Jessie the second oldest girl, found a clue in her fortune cookie that was sitting on top of her ice cream. Inside was a picture gram that was too easy. I figured out what it meant before the children did. I think the author should have made the clues a little more challenging for the readers.

The only reason I enjoyed this story was Benny. He is the youngest child of the boxcar children, who are orphans. He had a good sense of humor that made me laugh. For example one time while Benny was waiting for his fortune cookie, he yelled, "Where's my cookie?" Right there in the middle of the restaurant which made every one laugh.

The main setting was in a little town named Circleville. It has about one hundred homes and sixty-six stores. They were visiting their aunt who lived there. When she took them out to dinner the children discovered a clue to a mystery in Benny's fortune cookie. The Children love to solve mysteries.

The main theme and conflict of the book were the four clues that the children solved where supposed to be for someone else to find. The mystery for the children was to find out whom it was for.

I would recommend this book to a person who likes mysteries at an easy reading level. Most of the words were easy. Only a few were hard to understand. I would not pick another book in the "Boxcar Children" series.

Great book. See D, U, R, and M turn into a second mystery! Fortune cookies meant for someone else end up in the Boxcar Children's hands! And a mystery author disappear... and... appear again! Thx Warner for this book and more!

This was an author finding cookie hunting mission. The big mystery was solved again by the amazing Alden children. I am never let down by a Boxcar Children book.
