Exellent
The Journal of the Two Sisters is a companion piece to the Friendship is Magic main series. I bought it for the glimpse into the show's backstory. It definitely delivered on that.

This is backstory specifically for Celestia and Luna. It starts when they were first crowned princesses of Equestria, shortly after its founding. Their half of the book records their activities from that day through officially taking up their duty of raising the sun and moon. It fills the gap between the Unicorn Tribe doing it in the origin story, "Heartwarming Eve", and Celestia and Luna doing it in the story recounted in "Mare in the Moon". (Small note: The journal ends before Discord's reign of terror).

It is a fun read. The journal is written in-universe (what the human reader holds is a defictionalization) and so the personalities of the two princesses show in the first person narration. As it turns out, Pinkie used the Organ-to-the-outside exactly as Luna designed it. Fans rarely get to see Celestia and Luna interact as sisters and this has a lot of that. They fit the mold of the Foolish Sibling-Responsible Sibling dynamic; Celestia is a polite princess and a book nerd while Luna likes adventure and pranks.

There are lots of adventures within this tory. They range from befriending a manticore in the Everfree Forest to negotiating peace with the griffin kingdom. Also, there's something with the ROYAL CANTERLOT VOICE that is too awesome to spoil here.

It's not just the royal sisters. Starswirl the Bearded is also an important character here. He was basically Merlin to Celestia and Luna's King Arthur. No wonder Luna could recognize Twilight's Nightmare Night costume and praise it for accuracy.

The second half of this book is the full version of the Mane Six's journal entries from Season 4 of the main show. It was fun to read those too but there was nothing new there.

Celestia and Luna have alternating motifs of sun and moon and warm and dark colors for their pages. The art style is similar to fairy-tale recounting in "The Mare of The Moon". The Mane Six (and others) also have distinct backgrounds. This adds to the emotion of the book.

I posted this review on Amazon.ca too.

Tia - Celestia's fan nickname although she is called Cellie in this book.

The Journal of the Two Sisters gives you an inside look on Tia and Luna's early beginnings as Princesses of Equestria such as how they built their castle in the Everfree Forest and why it has all those trap doors in it.

Some of the journal entries somewhat relate to key characters and elements in the TV show such as the Sisters discovering a Zebra Clan in the middle of the Everfree Forest who rhyme.

The Princesses reveal how they got their cutie marks aswell.

The book reveals the sisters younger personalities which is cool because in the TV show you don't see much depth to Celestia except her being the nearly flawless, perfect ruler of Equestria. Here in the book she is described as a bookworm much like Twilight, who loves to read and study with Star Swirl the Bearded who is a third major character in the book.

Luna is more of a prankster and more of an explorer, showing how she wanders off to discover a secret area in the Everfree Forest after hearing about it from a Manticore friend without telling Celestia first.

The book is cute, giving you an interesting look into Tia and Luna's past although I would be interested to know what caused the original split between them that caused Luna to become Nightmare Moon, because I doubt it was more then just sibling jealousy towards Celestia.

Hopefully there will be a sequel to this book to reveal the more difficult, serious hardships of Tia and Luna as they got older that involves Luna's drive to Nightmare Moon.

Yar
I think even since as far back as Season 1, fans of the show "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" have often wondered just how Equestria's two rulers, sisters Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, came to govern all of pony land. Just what was life like before Twilight Sparkle and her friends came along? Just who was Starswirl the Bearded? How did Celestia and Luna themselves become alicorns? And how did they get their cutie marks?

Most of those burning questions are answered in this book, which takes the form of journal entries written by the sisters themselves (the book that was first featured in the "Castlemania" episode of the show). We, the readers, are taken on an adventure, as the sisters are chosen to be the rulers of Equestria not long after Hearth's Warming Eve, on the account that they're alicorns. (Although, how they became alicorns, and/or why they were born that way is never explained.) We then follow a series of adventures as the journal entries swap back and forth between the sisters as they discover new areas of Equestria, make new friends, build their castle together, and eventually earn their cutie marks; all while taking sage advice from the powerful magician unicorn, Starswirl the Bearded.

While there are some questions that still remain a mystery, like how Celestia and Luna are alicorns to begin with (since the "Magical Mystery Cure" episode seems to imply that being an alicorn has to be earned, and not simply born as such), pretty much everything else is explained, like how the sisters learned to be proper rulers, got their cutie marks, and made friends with the griffons, zebras, and creatures in the Everfree forest. And Starswirl, who has remained a pretty mysterious figure on the show, gets a good deal of spotlight as well.

One thing to note is that there's also supposed to be the journal entries from the Mane 6 afterwards (the ones from Season 4 of the show). This is only in the print version. If you get the Kindle version (like I did), the Mane 6's entries are NOT included.

All n' all, this book is a MUST read if you're a fan of the show, and wondered about the early years of Celestia and Luna. It's both an interesting and funny adventure.
