As one of the gifts for her eleventh birthday Lloyd Sherman, the Little Colonel, is given permission to hold her very own house party.

She invites her closest friends from all over the country--Eugenia Forbes of New York City, Joyce Ware of Plainsville, Kansas, and Beth Lewis of Jaynes, Kentucky--to her home in Lloydsboro Valley, Kentucky for her special event.

Over the course of the weekend the four girls learn that, though they are very different, they all have much in common, and also teach each other the true meaning of friendship.

This is the 3rd in the Little Colonel Series and by far my favorite. Several parts made me tear up; you come to care for characters so vivid. I really love the “Road to the Loving Heart” story which is relayed to the girls about the important of giving to others. A change happenes to not only the girls over the course of the story, but the reader.

If you ever saw the Shirley Temple movie "The Little Colonel", then you already know this character. This is a whole series of books through the girl, Lloyd's, childhood and teen years. Many characters such as friends, schoolmates, neighbors and family come and go through this series, and Lloyd always learns and grows from her experiences. Nicely written and fun to read! A nice series to give a young girl!
