In Kerstin Gier's Emerald Green, Gwen has a destiny to fulfill, but no one will tell her what it is. She's only recently learned that she is the Ruby. MARISA CALIN is an actress, narrator, and novelist born in England and educated in New York at the American Academy of the Dramatic Arts.

The conclusion to the Ruby Red series has as many twists as the two previous books in the trilogy. A most excellent finale to the Ruby Red Trilogy. It was full of enthralling plot twists and turns, most of which I never saw coming. I loved how everything came together and explained itself. Gwen has endured danger and flirted with romance throughout the two weeks (!) since she learned she’s the final member of the time-traveling Circle of Twelve. Now, the questions aren’t resolved until the final few pages as she tries to counteract the plans of the dastardly Count Saint-Germain.

I thought that this book was a great ending to the series. There was not nearly as much annoying recap, like at the beginning of the 2nd book. I felt like the quirkiness of the characters was also in check and stuck to their personalities. Nothing felt forced. I felt like this book had finally worked out most of the kinks found in the past two volumes.

There is definitely still the same mushy "first love is forever" theme present in the series, and it really comes to a strong forefront in the last book. Keep in mind as you approach this book that the series is definitely aimed at the younger teen audience. However, if you can get past that, I found the story in Emerald Green to be my favorite of the three.

While I liked the ending, it was a little to "happily ever after" for me. It didn't feel believable, just perfectly convenient. They also didn't explain why the fairy-tale circumstance at the end worked out the way it did very clearly. It felt like a rush to the "What a lucky coincidence! Let's live happily ever after!".

There wasn't as much secrecy and strategy and cunning going on in the ending as I would have originally thought from the first two books. It was a lot of little things, and a HUGE focus on the romance and pretty dresses. I enjoyed it, but I'm not sure I'd have the desire to read it on any sort of regular basis.

Rating

This book earned a 3.5 out of 5. It was a fun read, but a bit immature. I think younger readers would love it, but I'm still on the fence as to whether I will find myself wanting to read the series again in the future.

This book was the my least favorite of the series, with many unanswered questions and a very weak ending. Instead of spending all the time on Gwen's love life, making her out to be a besotted 12 year old child with no control of her emotions, I think a lot more time could have been spent explaining "the Raven" magic, why she saw ghosts, why Dr. White and Mr. George helped her the way they did, and more about the life of Lucy and Paul. I would also like to have seen Gwen mature more then she did with all the challenges she faced in the book. The ending could have been much more inclusive of all the people that were involved in the book. What did they think about what happened to their life's work and the conclusions in the book? I also would have like to know how the Inner Circle dealt with the conclusion to the book, and more about how Gwen and Gideon continued on with their lives. Overall I enjoyed the series, but the last book was the weakest in the series.

A most excellent finale to the Ruby Red Trilogy. It was full of enthralling plot twists and turns, most of which I never saw coming. I loved how everything came together and explained itself. It was just neat! I love the characters and I love the story. I wish there had been more!!! And the very last page had me in an uproar of surprise! It was thrilling 'til the very end. I would recommend, however, that you be sure to have read the first two RECENTLY before you dig into this one. I read the first two a year ago and was just a little behind trying to remember specific events from them. Overall, though, I absolutely loved this book! I would recommend it to any fanatic of romance (tactfully done, I might add) and/or sci-fi, and especially anyone into time-travel type-stuff. I hope to read more by this author soon!!

This was a great series and so unique and fresh I thought. YA time travel! I gave the first two books in the series 4 stars each, but this one was worthy of 5. There were some fantastic characters in here; I loved Mr. George and Gideon best. There were a few jaw dropping moments for me, holy cow! I thought Kerstin did a great job wrapping up the series and everything came together nicely. Overall this was a great series and had a little of everything that I love in a good story-YA, humor, romance and suspense! Love love!

After a friend recommended the first book in this trilogy I couldn't stop reading. I read Sapphire Blue and Emerald Green immediately and I was not disappointed. I loved this Trilogy and the characters seemed like real people to me. Once again I was in awe of Leslie as a friend to Gwyneth. She was always there for her, always pointing out the good when Gwen needed to hear it and was sympathetic to Gwen's romance problems. Gwen travels back and forth in this last book to try to figure out who the villain really is (a real surprise is the revelation of the guise he has been using in 2011. Gwen wants to get things straight. She is willing to risk a lot including her own life for the man she loves and to find the truth. By the third book I knew the why of the villain, why he wanted the circle to be closed. My favorite character through all three books was the seamstress who constantly reinforced Gwen's self image with each outfit she dressed her in. (I can't remember how to spell her name right now.) I am actually surprised that Gwen came out to be as strong as she was considering her grandmother, aunt and cousin's constantly putting her down from the time she was little. I thought that once it was discovered that she, and not Charlotte, was "the Ruby" their harassment of her would stop but it didn't. I loved how Charlotte ended up being her own worst enemy in the end. I was sorry to see the trilogy end but it was wrapped up nicely for me. I didn't find the loose ends that some of the others seemed to find.
