It’s called Poppy the Panda, by Dick Gackenbach. Bean adores this book. We’ve been getting it from the library and reading it for years now and she enjoys it every time. The basic theme is that this little girl Katie has a panda named Poppy who decides he won’t go to sleep until she finds him something special to wear like all the rest of her dolls and toys. Silliness ensues while she tries to find him something he approves of wearing. One of the first things Katie tries on Poppy is an outfit from her doll. The doll is the one you can see in the first picture on the cover of the book

So much fun for the reader as well as the listener as Poppy tries to find the perfect attire for a stuffed bear.

Poppy becomes dissatisfied when he notices that all the other toys have clothes and he doesn't. He complains to his best friend, a little girl named Katie, who does her best to help. Poppy won't wear just anything so Katie goes to great lengths to try to please him, having him try on one thing after another. The results of their search for just the right outfit yield hilarious results.
This book was by far the most often requested bedtime story by both my son and my daughter when they were younger. The antics of Poppy and Katie never fail to delight my young audience when I've read it to my preschool students at story time. The text is easy to follow and lively, and the illustrations are wonderful.

This is one of the most charming children's stories ever. My kids, who are in their late 20's and early 30's love this book to this day. The writing is wonderful and the illustrations are perfect. All hail Katie and her pal, Poppy!

Grab a used copy while you can! This is a great children's book with a funny story that you won't mind reading the 2.8 million times your kids will ask to hear it. Is a perfect read-aloud book that lends itself to animated voices and laughing together with your kids. Will appeal to a wide age-range of kids. My youngest was hooked on it at 10.5 months old! "Poppy" (or some variation thereof) was one of her first words. Highly recommended but out of print, so get a used one while they last.

This book became my son's favorite book, so much so that he had all the words memorized before he could read. I had to purchase two of these books... the first was so well loved. Buy it (if you can)... read it... share it! I adore this book!!
