Having a hard time finding stories to read to your toddler or pre-schooler or for your newly-independent reader to read to her/himself? This is the ticket. No foul language here. Nobody picks on his/her little sibling. The characters don't break the rules or disrespect adults. Here are just two stories about problem-solving and friendship. Cute! The only things you might want to be aware of is that in one story the characters are playing hide-and-seek and one takes several turns in a row (the friend doesn't mind and patiently counts and seeks while the first keeps trying to find a good hiding place). Counting is modeled very well in that story. In another story the characters make quite a mess while baking a cake, but they clean up the mess. Also, it's a fairly simple cake with raisins and no frosting if you're concerned about modeling junk-food. (One of the characters tastes the raisins in the process - maybe a few more than one should.) For more stories about friendship, problem-solving and cooperation, see Noisy Neighbors (I Am Reading) and Upstairs Mouse, Downstairs Mole.

Have you ever wondered how hard it might be to play hide and seek if you're an alligator? Well, it's hard! The young children I teach laugh their heads off when Alligator keeps trying to hide, but his tail sticks out no matter what he does. Of course, he finally has a brainstorm for how to successfully hide from Crocodile - can you guess what it is? Very fun book!
