Rapunzel is a book by Paul O. Zelinsky retelling the Grimm brothers' "Rapunzel" story. Released by Dutton Press, it was the recipient of the Caldecott Medal for illustration in 1998. The story is a retelling of the original 1812 version, which leaves in details not present in later versions, such as Rapunzel giving birth to twins by the prince.

My fave Rapunzel story has to be be Shannon Hale's wild west graphic novel version, but this one should appeal to the gals who like fairy tale princess stories. The art is indeed lovely and the silhouetted images are really remarkable. One nit picky issue I have is with the illustration of the witch climbing Rapunzel's hair. There are some conventional books for childhoods, and I want children to have contemporary experiences with their peers.

She lowers her hair, he climbs up, they have an epic love story - until the witch finds out; however, this is after the prince got the girl pregnant.

An evil witch has trapped Rapunzel in a tower. This is the story of Rapunzel, a Classic Fairy Tale originally written by the Brothers Grimm in their book, The Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales Collection. It was adapted & is brought to you by Stories to Grow by. The Carpenter and His Wife.

Long, long ago in a house that overlooked a beautiful garden lived a childless couple. They prayed to God every day to bless them with a child. One day they found that God had answered their prayer. They were at long last going to have a baby! Their days passed in happiness but alas! the wife fell ill. She would eat nothing and the husband was worried that she would waste away. He tried to tempt her with many good things but she refused everything. But you must eat something, my dear, he begged her. There is a herb called Rapunzel in the garden next door
