Tom knows the tree he planted is going to grow into something special full of singing peacocks, and fruit, and even a pirate ship. But it’s hard to wait. Tom knows the tree he planted is going to grow into something special full of singing peacocks, and fruit, and even a pirate ship. But it's hard to wait. I wish you'd hurry up," Tom says to his tree. But days turn into years and the tree, just like Tom, continues to grow into something wonderful. An uplifting story about love and hope through the generations.
SUMMARY: There are the small betrayals: the unkind word, the petty lies. And there are the betrayals that break hearts, destroy worlds, and turn the strong sweet light of day into bitter dust.
When it grows, Tom knows it will be a magical tree, full of fruit and peacocks and even a pirate house. I wish you'd hurry up,' Tom says to his tree, but all the wishing and whispering in the world won't make the seedling grow big and strong. Tom has to be patient, and wait for the passing seasons to do their work. For ages 0-5. Format Paperback 32 pages. Publication date 28 Aug 2014. Publisher Albury Books. Publication City/Country Thame, United Kingdom.
Tom's dreams take flight again. He waters, watches and even builds a fence around his tree-to-be. Tom grows up; his tree grows more slowly. Many years later, the adult Tom and his young son Edward visit the tall tree, in which Edward can see the peacocks and the pirate ship. Raynor's stylishly simple illustrations complement the minimalism of Shields's text, juxtaposing earthily round-headed, dot-eyed tots against Tom's florid imaginings.
Gillian Shields, Gemma Rayner. When it grows, Tom knows it will be a magical tree, full of fruit and peacocks and even a pirate house.
