For many, Hal Jordan was the defining Green Lantern for years. As a result, the decision to change him into a psychotic would-be-conqueror caused some backlash and his rising star fell, seemingly forever. In his place, Lanterns Rayner, Stewart, (and to some extent, Gardner) took his place and became the faces of Green Lantern for a younger generation (mine) on the widely watched Superman and Justice League cartoons.

Why does this matter? Jordan was the greatest for decades, then rather horrifically trashed his legacy and before DC brought him back as the Spectre for a further period of time. So when bringing Jordan back to a newer generation of readers, this story has a goal of reintroducing Hal Jordan as a Green Lantern that tops them all. Put simply, this story does that in spades. Between Johns' writing and Van Sciver's art, Rebirth emphasizes how important of a character Hal Jordan was, and sets up how important he would become in future stories. The writing masterfully summarizes past events without dragging on, yet still providing adequate history for plot development. Johns is able to craft in Jordan's fall, rampage, involvement in a semi-crisis, death and time as Spectre in such a way that even those only casually familiar don't feel left out. The art is fantastic, not perfect (Batman's portrayal is somewhat confusing) but is able to capture the magnitude of the story appropriately. Another plus of the art is that it is consistent, as some artists fail to be through the course of a big arc.

While Rebirth may no longer be Hal's canon history, it nonetheless a definitive story for this character. There really is no excuse as to NOT purchase this book.

Most of the time, when publishers try to undo their mistakes, they end up making a big mess (think Clone Saga). This book was a perfect fit into the Hal Jordan arc and felt more like an explanation of past events than a fix patched over a leaky plot. Excellent story.

I hadn't read a Green Lantern comic before this one, but was familiar with the character from cartoons (many years ago) and the movie. I thought the book's plot was interesting - a little on the dark side though. Not sure what all the back story was but apparently Hal had died before but his spirit was living on combined with several other entities and he was creating havoc. I'm not sure I enjoyed the plot as much as just the character development and the other parts of the story. I would give it:
story 3/5
characters 4/5
art 4/5

I have to admit that I have never thought much of the Green Lantern(s). They just never seemed that interesting to me, but I also heard bits and pieces of their history and I know their general history. I was surprised when I started to hear great things about Rebirth and I figured that it would be a good jumping on point, and it was.

Geoff John's somehow managed to pull off a old comic book cliche (It was my clone, It was a robot, I was possessed) but also make it very interesting and he intertwined it very nicely into the story. I would also like to thank him for getting rid and explaining why Green Lanterns are afraid of the color Yellow.

While the story and the art are both good though I honestly didn't think Green Lantern: Rebirth was really that great. I mean the way people talked about it I thought it would be like Watchmen or Kingdom Come. Instead it was just a strong story. Worth getting, but its nowhere near the hype in my eyes.

In all honesty, I started reading this book in a book store one day and could not put it down. Geoff Johns(the writer) has made Green Lantern one of DC Comics most popular properties. Several years later, I am still reading Green Lantern and following the monthly series. This is the book where it all started. Johns addresses old Green Lantern stories and mythology to make a much more reader friendly and entertaining book. Johns balances humor, action, and drama to make a great story. Furthermore, Johns use of continuity(past stories) is done in a way where you don't need to have read a ton of Green Lantern previously to understand, but makes it so the continuity enriches the current story making you thirsty for more. The visuals are stunning. The story is exceptional.

I really loved this book...Geoff john's writing is one of the best in comic's history. And the artwork is gorgeous, and goes perfectly with the story. This was my first GL book, and even though i loved it there were still some parts that confused me. But in general I got a slight idea of some of the main character's personalities and their history with Hal.

I have been collecting Geoff Johns run for quite some time but I did not start with Green Lantern Rebirth...although it would be the obvious choice.
I started with the Sinestro Corp War which proved to be a good starting point as well but decided to go back to complete my collection.

Green Lantern Rebirth did not disappoint. Geoff Johns uses this book to set up his long Green Lantern run,and for that do happen he had to make
some changes to the status of Green Lantern in the DC universe. The biggest change was bringing Hal Jordan back! This book is a good read and a
great starting point, which no one following GJs Green Lantern run should skip. There are a lot of great character moments with some good actions scenes.
I loved Ethan Van Scivers beautiful and highly detailed art which fit the story perfectly. The book also has some nice extras in the back.

The story is not perfect and some flaws are noticable, like Geoff Johns Batman portrayal which a lot of people including my self did not like.
I saw where he was going with it,trying to show the contrast between Hal and Bruce, but I think he went a bit too far with it. Although I cant say
that it ruined my experience.

Great for the price!
