Wade Wilson's War tells the story of how Deadpool (Wade Wilson) came to be through a series of flashbacks. The twist, the story is told from two different perspectives and it is up to the reader to decide which story is the truth. And, following the imprint’s characteristic boiling down of a character down to his or her nature, this comic does exactly that. Swierczynski brilliantly captures Deadpool's tone, and Jason Pearson's I loved Duane Swierczynski's take on Deadpool. He was always a character that seemed better in theory than in practice.

This storyline has the potential to forever-alter the way I read Deadpool. In these 100 pages, a complexity, depth, and social commentary are injected into our favorite merc with a mouth.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!

Is Deadpool the made-up persona of an otherwise insignificant soldier? Is every Deadpool comic simply the internalized ramblings of a mentally injured warrior? Is this why he's "self aware", because he is making up these stories in his mind? When he addresses "us" is he actually addressing himself?! Are we just along for the ride? If this is true, he ISN'T aware of US, he's simply talking to himself. Is Wade Wilson the personification of how poorly we treat our wounded warriors when they come back from battle? Does this explain why he can be married to a succubus, invincible, live for hundreds of years, etc? Is Wade Wilson sitting in a VA Hospital "living" this all out in his mind? Is Deadpool just a fantasy that the comic book-loving Wade Wilson is making up?

I LOVE Deadpool, these 100 pages could either elevate Wade Wilson to the level of a complex, tortured, soul who I truly care for—worrying for his well-being as he rots away in a hospital or it could add too much complexity to my otherwise mindless escape to hang out with everyone's favorite merc with a mouth.

First off, this book is NOT in continuity, so if you're expecting to learn Deadpool's true origin story in this book, then you will be disappointed. With that out of the way, this book was pretty good. Was it the best Deadpool book? No, but it was still entertaining in its own way. In the book, two versions of the story are told, and throughout the book you're left speculating which version is the truth. How did it end? Let's just say the ending caught me by surprise. Overall, if you're looking for an interesting read, this book is it.
