If it were up to me, I would rewrite Susan Orlean’s entire book, Saturday Night. I would just switch a couple words here and there, tweak the sentences a bit, tear out all the pages.

She travels all around the country to find out what various eclectic groups of people in radically different locations are doing for fun, or attempts at fun, on Saturday night. If it were up to me, I would rewrite Susan Orlean’s entire book, Saturday Night. And trust me, nobody will see the difference.

Twenty years ago, before she wrote The Orchid Thief or was hailed as a national treasure by The Washington Post, Susan Orlean was a journalist with a question: What makes Saturday night so special? To answer it, she embarked on a remarkable journey across the country and spent the evening with all sorts of people in all sorts of places-hipsters in Los Angeles, car cruisers in small-town Indiana, coeds in Boston, the homeless in New York, a lounge band in Portland, quinceañera revelers in Phoenix, and more-to chronicle the one night of the week.

Cool read. Not something I would normally read but was drawn by the author as I'd read her fiction work. Quite an interesting book. I never looked at Saturday night the way it was described but found Susan really did call out the uniqueness of Saturday night. I was amused at learning how television networks years ago didn't feel like anyone was home on Saturday night so therefore didn't put much mind into programming for that night. Enjoyed learning about the genesis of SNL show.

I loved it. I felt that Susan Orlean definitely pinned down her slice of life impressions, observations, and analysis as she immersed herself in the Saturday nights of cruisters, restauranteers, the bowery, zydeco event planners, the F--- truck plying its way between Wellesyan (sic I'm sure) and Harvard/MIT/ etc, TV watchers, and a myriad other places.

I just got done reviewing The Astronauts Wives Club. If she had taken on that subject - whoa nelly that would have been a book.

Very interesting. Like reading someone's diary for a Saturday night....Nice American crazy quilt of ordinary Saturday nights. Sometimes a little toooo much detail.

Fun read as individual stories

This book is a collection of what different groups or individuals do on a Saturday night. It is a fun read, especially on a quiet Saturday night at home.

An fascinating journey through the events of various cultures and regions which take place on Saturday nights. Cleverly woven into a very interesting read.

Fantastic. I loved all the experiences in the book.

This review is for the Kindle version, not the book itself. This Kindle book is not text-to-speech enabled by the publisher. I thought that this would be a good companion for my commute, but I returned it when I discovered it could not be listened to as well as read conventionally.
