I highly recommend it for Michigan lighthouse fans. This is a must have for visiting Lighthouses in Michigan. Published by Thriftbooks. I used this book to visit about 50 of the 116 lights. I would rate this as a must have for photographing Michigan lighthouses. This book would also be good for lighthouse "collectors". It not only gives you a photo of the lighthouse (most are in color) but a brief history and concise directions with maps (it does not give gps coordinates). This lets you decide which lighthouses are worth a visit and which are too utilitarian or out of the way. All of the lighthouses have numbers which are plotted on a state silhouette allowing you to find lighthouses in the areas you are choosing to visit. It also gives visiting hours for lighthouses which are open to the public or give tours and what you can see and do while you are there as many are contained within state parks or recreational areas. This should be a handy reference for our trip to Michigan.

I have had this book for a couple of years now. I originally purchased this book as a guide too Michigan Lighthouses. I like that it gives you a photo of each lighthouse and also gives you a brief history on each lighthouse as well. It is a great travel companion too have on the road as it gives you directions too each lighthouse. I also like that fact that it starts in southwest Michigan and works its way up to coast as if you were driving from lighthouse too lighthouse. If you are looking for a book on Michigan lighthouses, I would recommend this book.

Excellent guide for a lake rim road trip. Beginning in Chicago, you could drive up the Lake's west side, ferry across, up to Mackinac Island, down the center of the state and loop back to the east shore to Chicago, or go north up the east side and loop/ferry back down the west side. Great photos and descriptions, logical progression presentation. Very good for trip planning. Good job, author!

This is truly the best, most concise, and comprehensive book for Michigan lighthouses that I have come across. The photography is beautiful and the narrative of each lighthouse highlights their unique characteristics. I have enjoyed perusing the book as I explore many of the most unique man-made, historic treasures in Michigan.

Just this past May (2001), I toured to most of Lower Michigan's lighthouses. Starting in St. Joseph and traveling north to Old Mackinac, then up to Whitefish Point in the UP, then back down in the Lower Peninsula. Once in the Lower Peninsula, we followed Lake Huron south to Marine City and then crossed over into Canada for our trip back to Buffalo. All I can say is...WHAT A GREAT BOOK. The biggest thing that I like about it is it includes directions to each light. What a concept. This book, coupled with my Garmin Streetpilot GPS unit got us everywhere we wanted to go without guessing. All together, we visited about 44 lighthouses and took over 30 rolls of film. ...
