Neff has amassed a great deal of material showing the closeness of US/Israeli relations, as well as Johnson's intimacy with American-Jewish supporters of Israel and his attempts to gain America-Jewish political support (on Vietnam, in particular). None of this, however, had a significant effect on what occurred.

Israel basked in a mood of national self-congratulation. With the big problems in Vietnam, another war in the Middle East would be an even worse headache. In 1967 neither Israel nor its Arab neighbours needed much encouragement. They plunged straight into the crisis that they had all expected for years.

Although I am 100% pro Israel , his coverage of israel's cruel attack on U. S. S. Liberty was sad for me and was not (or poorly) covered in two other authors on the 1967.
