The sweaters are clearly created by an artist and might have been trendy in the '80's. Now, they are outdated and oversized. There is too much ornamentation. However, one might take this information and apply to, for example, a pillow slip. I couldn't see altering the pattern to meet today's fashion trends and my size demands, plus calculating the yarn amount and end up paying lots of money for the suggested type of yarn, mohair for one, only to be doing an experiment. This book puts me off of creating crochet sweaters. Despite the author's best efforts, the samples look like crochet afghans. Various color changes and decorative stitches, like bobbles, do not help. Maybe, one can benefit by matching the charts to the gauge to the finished product, then, learning how to master the art of sweater creation in like manner. In that way, the book could be useful as a teaching device. As far as going directly from the pattern to a wearable creation, I don't advise that. Crocheted ponchos, capes and shawls, if done in a lacy look, might be useful for out of the home. A large sweater would only be good for use in a very cold home, one without heat in the winter. The following book provides examples of what to wear for various occasions without appearing to be swimming within a garment: "Knit and Crochet Poinchos, Wraps, Capes and Shrugs" Edie Eckman, ed.

Some of the patterns are fine, but disappointed in most. I do change up patterns on occasion, most of these I would have to. Patterns do give me ideas and that's about what I've regulated this book to. Won't be a go-to book for me.

If you can find this book, buy it!! Even though it was published almost 20 years ago, this styles in this book are so classic and classy, you could easily wear one out next week. The color coordination ideas, the ideas for sources of inspiration and styles, but make me drool and so very sad that Syliva Cosh died. Wonderful book and worth whatever you pay.

I bought this book for the color information. It did not disappoint. Using color correctly can make or break even the best styles so I love how there is detailed information about using color, and not only that, but about using different textures too.

Yes, the styles are somewhat flamboyant, well, majorly flamboyant, but putting that aside, I can see some ways to alter the patterns. Altering them a bit, but not with so many changes that the pattern is unusable (and those great schematics and stitch charts included). I like how the sleeves are connected to the main body, but the lower width of them is a bit full. This is easy to fix with a few decreases. And those shoulder pads! Just taking those out will change the whole look of the sweater.

Everyone needs a crochet book with a sweater that makes you look like a big blue butterfly. Actually, it's beautiful; just nothing anyone would wear. Well, not me anyway. ;-)

I found a copy of this book at my local library, checked it out a couple of times and thought I want my own copy. I look forward to using it to crochet several of the items show in the book. Thank you for your help.

This is one of my favorite vintage crochet books. I find the designs so inspiring and the crochet tips and information is seamlessly presented alongside the patterns making it a good reference book as well as an interesting pattern book with nicely constructed garments.

Beautiful and unique inspirations for creating crocheted sweaters for the entire family. Timeless designs with wonderful use of color and geometry. A great tool for anyone interested in the field of fashion design.

If you like added shoulders then you can vary the pattern with colors etc. But if you want to be able to follow a pattern exactly then this book will have you make an outdated sweater. Look on.
