This book is everything I could've asked for, it has the basic breeds that everyone wants to know, it's gives great insight for all the different kinds of riding, dressage, and my favorite hunter-jumper. I will always refer back to it for my basic questions. There were also beautiful pictures of these beautiful animals; there were a lot of good example pictures.
However, I didn't find that the book was detailed about the medical field, yes there were examples of the basic vaccines and the basic problems but when we recieved a vet bill and didn't know what they were testing for I went and looked in the book, to no avail.
Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I will refer back to it, when my questions can be answered.

I borrowed this book from a friend and was so pleased with it-it has hundreds of full-color photos and such crystal-clear information-that I went out and bought my own copy. This book includes rare chapters on the Western and harnessed disciplines (among a few well-written others)and covers the basic breeds and has a detailed horse care section. The price is well worth it.

The first part of the book contains a list of horse and pony breeds which are described quite comprehensively. The other parts I found a little incomplete and sketchy. The horse care basics in this book are messy, some horse sport descriptions are poor. The photos aren't of highest quality and the index contains some inaccuracies.

This book will be helpful for a beginner.
