GIANT GEORGE is the charming story of how this precocious puppy won Dave and Christie's hearts and along the way became a doggie superstar. In 2010, George was named by Guinness World Records as the Tallest Dog in the World-ever. He appeared on Oprah, and even has his own global fan club. But to Dave and Christie, this extraordinary animal is still their beloved pet, the one who has made them laugh, made them cry, and continues to make them incredibly happy.

The life of a good dog is like the life of a good person, only shorter and more compressed, writes Pulitzer Prize-winning author Anna Quindlen about her beloved black Labrador retriever, Beau.

Published by Thorndike Press, this large print version of the novel is ideal for those with less than perfect eyesight. This number one bestselling novel follows up on some of the events of "Mr. Mercedes," allowing readers to learn what befalls some of the main characters, including Tom Saubers, who was disabled in the events of the previous novel. King fans may find themselves furiously turning pages long into the night. "King creates such vivid characters-people you can picture yourself drinking a beer with or inviting over for lunch.

Please know what you're getting. This is NOT a full-length book, not a laugh out loud Marley and Me. It's definitely essay/article length. It's written in Anna Quindlen's trademark style, spare, unsentimental, with an eye for the detail and/or truths we are aware of but don't articulate. When she does, there's a smile of warm recognition and connection.

I've read this book several times and each time, it quiets me down, warms my heart, puts me into a reflective place, brings back memories and, occasionally, a few tears, both sad and grateful.

It's really an understated but classic and rich work of art. IMHO.

I've given many as gifts. It's just about perfect as a small token of thoughtfulness
when someone has lost their dog, or simply for anyone who loves their dog.

crazy mashine
Anna Quindlen is my favorite author. Her vibrant words always illicit feelings within me that I share with the author. Drawing parallels between the life of her special dog and herself are masterful. What more could you ask of a class act story teller.

Well t that was short and to the point..we all have been there at it is poinant and sad..life I'd to short when it comes to our f y r babie

Like some other readers, I could not resist buying this book because of the picture of an aging Black Labrador on the cover. That could be my own aging lack Lab Wink on the cover with the same loving face..not to mention the graying of her black coat. Beau was with Quindlen's family his whole life. She tells of their first meeting and of his days as a happy adult. Unfortunately, the clock moves too quickly and Beau begins to slow down. The love in his eyes doesn't fade even though his body is. The last pages of this small book brought tears to my eyes. I could relate to Quindlen's journey with Beau--knowing it was coming to its end. The book is just over 80 pages and about half of it is pictures of various dogs. It's easy to finish the book in half an hour. It's more suitabke as a long magazine article rather than a book. The pictures in the book are of various dogs of different breeds. They just seem to be random pictures of cute dogs. Only a few pictures seem to be of Beau but none of the pictures have a caption. If Quindlen is like me she could fill a whole book with pictures of her dog.
Much of the book was a sad read for me knowing my time with my beautiful Wink is coming to an end. GOOD DOG. STAY is a sweet tribute to a beloved pet that leaves the reading wanting more

I wanted to read this book because the picture of Beau on the front reminded me of my own aging dog that I will no doubt lose one of these days soon. The book is a quick read and doesn't delve deeply into the issue of losing a long time pet...but even this brief visit and glimpse is done with a sweetness that rings true to the lessons taught. Their lifespans do not match our own so we will no doubt have to face this kind of thing several times over our lifetime. But we can still learn as Anna says to roll with the punches and take things as they come.

Anna Quindlen is a superb writer and she's done it again with "Good Dog. Stay". Ms. Quindlen is my kind of dog-lover: no gushing, no illusions that this wonderful creature has human feelings, and no compulsion to dress him up in silly clothes. Just respect for what he is: loyal, predictable (usually), goofy, and sweet. I get the title completely - I have an elderly dog (one of several in a long line over my lifetime); I'm crazy about him, and I so want him to "stay", but I recognize that there comes a time where it's about them and not you, and that's when you have to say goodbye. The book is tiny, just like other reviewers have mentioned, (I read the entire thing while eating a sandwich) and I would have preferred it to be longer also, but nevertheless, it's a little gem.

Beyond all expectations. I purchased the book but hearing Anna read this to me is quite an experience. It became more personal. A remarkable cd for animal lovers. I have an old dog also and this has helped to prepare me for the horrible future. Now it's a little less frightening. The loss of a pet is an event that is difficult to prepare for, but this adds a warmth to the idea.

Not what I expected. I was expecting more than the life of Beau, i.e. what can be learned. Instead it is a short book on the life of a sweet labrador. To mirror other comments, 1/2 of the book is head shots of other dogs.
