Cousins Roger and Alistair become lifelong friends when they meet as boys in 1954.

Cousins Roger and Alistair become lifelong friends when they meet as boys in 1954. They discover their homosexuality and their lives intersect against the backdrop of 20th-century gay culture, from the beachboy surfer days of the 1960s, to Greenwich Village AIDS activism in the 1990s. From Publishers Weekly. Though Picano's latest may lack the significance implied by its subtitle, his memorable characters and wonderfully dishy dialogue evoke changing gay sensibilities with affecting measures of both tragedy and comedy.

Felice Picano's first book was a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Award "Ambidextrous" bills itself as being about the secret lives of children. Not really so much of a secret, as just forgotten by people once they get to be adults

Felice Picano's first book was a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Award. Since then he has published twenty volumes of fiction, poetry, non-fiction and memoirs. Considered a founder of modern gay literature along with the other members of the Violet Quill Club, Picano also founded two of the earliest gay publishing companies in the . the SeaHorse Press and Gay Presses. Ambidextrous" bills itself as being about the secret lives of children. Not really so much of a secret, as just forgotten by people once they get to be adults. Most of what happens in this book will seem familiar to many readers, especially those are other than straight.

Felice Picano (born February 22, 1944) is an American writer, publisher, and critic who has encouraged the development of gay literature in the United States. His work is documented in many sources. Felice Picano graduated cum laude from Queens College in 1964 with English department honors.

Ambidextrous by Felice Picano. Unfortunately, the book is a slow tedious read and not Mr. Picano's best effort. This is a tale told in the first person of Mr. Picano's youth, from ages 10 to 13 and his many sexual encounters with both boys and girls. It is a time capsule of life of young teenagers in the fifties. His homosexual relationship with Richard Victor (Rickie) Hersch is genuine, and a marvel to read, but his heterosexual relationships with Susan Flaherty and Franny Solomon are tedious and Ambidextrous by Felice Picano.

Ambidextrous: The Secret Lives of Children (1985), is a novel by the American author Felice Picano. Major themes include adolescent sexuality and coming out. A "bold, funny and excruciatingly honest" biographic tale of the author's own childhood and coming out experience, that inevitably affects the reader's retrospective view of his own childhood memories.

Picano's bold, funny and outrageously honest memoir of suburban 1950s childhood forever altered how we remember childhod . Although I am a fan of Felice Picano, and this novel is well written, Ambidextrous is a slow read.

Picano's bold, funny and outrageously honest memoir of suburban 1950s childhood forever altered how we remember childhod and how we think of it today.

This is my professional page Felice's newest book is Justify My Sins: A Hollywood Novel in Three Acts

This is my professional page. Come here to see what I've been doing lately and where I will be presenting my work. Felice came to Hollywood in 1977 to work on an adaptation of his best selling novel, and was bi-coastal until his move in 1995. Felice's newest book is Justify My Sins: A Hollywood Novel in Three Acts.

Wilbur Boyle said, glancing at a page or two of the manuscript Noel had handed in a few days before. An excellent beginning. The glossary is an especially good idea. If Boyle were satisfied with a mere fifty pages-most of which were index, glossary, and charts-he’d be knocked out by the rest. These semantic progression charts are fine. Likewise these artificial kinship tables you prepared.

The book, Ambidextrous, was an entertaining read and I found myself relating to the author through some of the thoughts and feelings he had at an early age of his life and dealing with his sexuality. Unfortunately, as the book progressed, Felice started to become more and more self confident with himself, which sad to say, translated to his self absorbtion. Nevertheless, I liked the book, and was fascinated at the depths of the growth of his character, despite the self elevation.
One thing to notice is there are only three chapters in this book. The three chapters each deal with a significant event in the character's life, but also cover a large variety of other topics. The author flows seemlessly in between the different topics, so you almost feel as though they belong there, when in reality, they shouldn't be covered there at all. In no way is this a bad thing that these topics are included. They add rich colorful detail to the going-ons in the book and before you know it, you are at the end of the novel, wondering what else is going to happen, which prompted me to order the next book.
The only real misgiving I have about this book, which is really not the author's fault, is the packaging at the end of all the gay sex phone numbers to call. I won't get into my thoughts on that, because it does not pertain to the book, but if you wish to e-mail me and find out, please do so.
Over all, I found this book to be highly entertaining.

Although I am a fan of Felice Picano, and this novel is well written, Ambidextrous is a slow read. This novel is not a high recommendation, but worth the read, however everything else I've read that he's written I would rate 5 stars.
