Physics for Scientists and Engineers, Volume 1. Raymond A. Serway.

Physics for Scientists and Engineers, Volume 1.

Raymond A. Serway is Professor Emeritus at James Madison University This book does a lousy job at explaining the concepts of Physics to the average college student, with no prior experience in the subject matter. Serway is Professor Emeritus at James Madison University. He earned his doctorate at Illinois Institute of Technology. Among his accolades, he received an honorary doctorate degree from his alma mater, Utica College, the 1990 Madison Scholar Award at James Madison University (where he taught for 17 years), the 1977 Distinguished Teaching Award at Clarkson University and the 1985 Alumni Achievement Award from Utica College. This book does a lousy job at explaining the concepts of Physics to the average college student, with no prior experience in the subject matter.

Many principles of physics are required to design and construct such an open semicircular roof with a radius of 74 meters and containing over 2 000 triangular panels. Other principles of physics are necessary to develop the lighting design, optimize the acoustics, and integrate the new structure with existing infrastructure, historic buildings, and railway platforms. Serway received his doctorate at Illinois Institute of Technology and is Professor Emeritus at James Madison University. Serway makes another attempt at physics but once again falls horribly short. This book is awful and I would not reccomend it to anyone. In 2011, he was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from his alma mater, Utica College. He received the 1990 Madison Scholar Award at James Madison University, where he taught for 17 years.

This successful text was the first to address the latest trends in the market as suggested by the Introductory University Physics Project (IUPP) guidelines. PRINCIPLES OF PHYSICS features a concise approach to traditional topics, an early introduction to modern physics, and the integration of contemporary topics throughout the text. In addition to a streamlined presentation, it also encourages analytical reasoning and a conceptual understanding of physics through contemporary applications and critical thinking exercises. This text represents an evolutionary approach (rather than a revolutionary approach). This third edition contains many new pedagogical features--most notably, a contextual approach to enhance motivation, an increased emphasis on avoiding misconceptions through the inclusion of Pitfall Preventions, and a problem-solving strategy that uses a modeling approach.
