I just started reading the book. Im on chapter 4. Its very concrete with examples of what to expect and historical education facts. The information provided has not been overwhelming nor do I feel like Im getting another lesson. The author really gives a sense of what to prepare for and what the district "expects" of you too. I was hired as an Interim Principal and I struggled because no one tells you anything...you should know what is expected of your performance, or how to access information when needed. Im getting through the book pretty quickly because its that informative.

I have never been so frustrated in reading a book. The publisher, editor or somebody should have caught the many typos in this book. It was really embarrassing how many times the word "principle" was used instead of "principal." I would expect a book at this reading level to be of high quality and caliber. The idea behind this book is a good one and would have been very helpful. However, the first clue behind a bad book is so many references to other books instead of writing new material. I will say that I did highlight a few good ideas from this book, but unless it is re-written soon, I would have to suggest that others not waste their money. Two better written books along this same subject were: "If You Don't Feed the Teachers They Eat the Students" and "What Great Principals do Differently."

This book didn't present any "new" information to me. However, it was a good refresher for me to remember what to do in that first year *if* I get the job.

I'm shocked at the complete lack of valuable information this book provides. It's an insult to even first year administrators to think they don't know things like the value in working with their teachers or to take a tour of the building before schools starts. But most of all, I'm speechless at the idea the author thinks that when you have two high school boys that can't get along, that the solution is to send them to different schools! Are you kidding me?

I am so shocked in the quick order placed and then the book was here within 48 hours, and I didn't pay for that extra service. I have only read the beginning of the book so far, an excellent tool, I am not a first year principal, however it is my first year in a new school and I want to change some of the things I have done in the past.

GawelleN
Very insightful and is everything the title says it is. Every new principal need a copy of this. The author presents simple common sense ideas and suggestions to make sure that your first year as a principal is not your last.

Many errors and a boring read. Not impressed. It was a required text book for a class I took. THe end.

This book was poorly written. There were many "missspellled" words and the book was full of cliches from the world of education. There are many books that are far superior to this book. I got it for less than five dollars and I still think it was over priced. I am sure the author is a good person with good intentions but this book is not the way to admistrative "nirvana."
