This is one of the most important works of legal scholarship of the 20th century, standing on the cusp of the 21st. It transformed society's understanding of what had until that time seemed like simply a feature of life, part of "reality" about which there was nothing to be done. Mackinnon changed our lives by asserting that women had a right to redress, that sexual harassment was neither uncommon nor trivial and that women had a right to demand better. Those reviewers who dismiss it as poorly written, poorly reasoned or who attack the author personally must reckon with the fact that it was intrumental in creating a cause of action where one previously did not exist. They protest too much. This book is a must read.
