According to Cussler, the Andrea Doria sinking was deliberate, but that secret begins unraveling two generations later, when archaeologist Nina Kirov, fleeing a "terrorist" attack on her dig, is rescued by a NUMA vessel. Aboard are Kurt Austin and Joe Zavala, NUMA field operatives equally deft with underwater hardware and the ladies.

In Serpent, his New York Times bestseller, Clive Cussler introduced Kurt Austin, a hero for the new millennium, and "created a new bunch of NUMA supersleuths who infused his work with .jolt of energy" (The Denver Post). Now Austin and his crew slake their thirst for action as they attempt to drown an eco-extortionist's plan to control the world's freshwater supply. He got his start in advertising, first as an award-winning copy writer, and then as creative director for two of the nation's largest agencies. His initial foray into fiction was in 1973, when he wrote his first Dirk Pitt® novel.

Only Kurt Austin and his crack NUMA team stand between Halcon and the Andrea Doria's silent steel hull - and if their deadly mission fails, Halcon will ride to power on a wave of death and destruction. To read this book, upload an EPUB or FB2 file to Bookmate.

At one time in my life, I thoroughly enjoyed the Dirk Pitt series of books from Cussler. Sort of a modern swash-buckling adventurer who always knows the right thing to do, the right thing to say and always gets the girl and the Meh. Think there's a reason why I haven't picked up one of his books for at least 5 years.

The outstanding new novel from the New York Times bestselling grand master of adventure. Husband-and-wife team Sam and Remi Fargo are in Mexico, when they come upon a remarkable discovery-the skeleton of a man clutching an ancient sealed pot, and within the pot, a Mayan book, larger than anyone has ever seen. The book contains astonishing information about the Mayans, about their cities, and about mankind itself.

The massacre of an archaeological team off the Moroccan coast leaves one survivor, a female scientist rescued by Kurt Austin, and a lot of unanswered questions about a plot to destroy the United States. Reprint.

I sort of liked the book, lots of action, the story developed and tied in interesting bits. It was almost too detailed, I had to skim over the technical info (and I'm a fairly technical person) so to not get bogged down in them instead of the story. It was based on some true events, so sometimes I wondered where the fact ended and the fiction began. But it really kept my attention, so overall I liked it. Not sure if I liked it enough to take on another though.

Not Clive's writing. Again. Note "co-written" in fine print. Personally, I don't think he writes any more for whatever reason. I think he develops the plot and the co-writers puts it to words. I've read a lot of Clive's excellent novels, and this sure doesn't seem like his writing. I stopped buying these co-written books of his but this one slipped by me.

Sad to see a great author hang it up.

I have read almost every Clive Cussler book, and, if you like that type of action adventure kind of book, this is something you should read . i am not sure if this is the one I would start with, but there is no real sequence to them other than the technology progression, much like a James Bond book. All of the different series create a group of characters in the NUMA team who you feel you would like to meet sometime, and a series of antagonists who you hope end up defeated in the end; they, reliably, are overpowered in the end with various unique twists and turns to get there. Not exactly Proust or Balzac, but a hell of a lot more fun.

This is another example of Cussler's ability to spin a story in ways you would never dream of. While you are fairly certain of the eventual outcome, the path to the solution of his mysteries is never predictable. Those enjoy a good action packed mystery with more changes in direction than an old country road.

Cussler, as always, mixes history with fantasy, handsome and adventurous men with shapely women. Flippant and devil-may-care dialogue with cookie-cutter villains. I’m embarrassed that I read the book in its entirety! Always fun, always a guilty pleasure.

If you like Clive Cussler's writing you will enjoy this book. Yes, it follows a fairly predictable path in general, as do many books, but it's the details of the story which Cussler and his co-authors do so well that sets him apart from others.

I had read some of the NUMA files before. This book gave me the beginning of all the characters and their personalities. The story was great and I felt like I was there in the middle of it.

Typical Cussler. Interesting plot shows that Author did his homework WRT the archaeology. The idea of pre-Columbian commerce between the Mediterranean and Mexico's Maya coupled with a run-in with antiquities thieves makes for an exciting read. In the end, the story is let down by a pretty run-of-the-mill megalomaniacal villain bent of world domination (again? Didn't Ian Flemming pretty much empty that particular well decades ago?)
