Carolyn Parkhurst's second novel, Lost and Found, is a witty look at reality TV. Parkhurst has imagined Lost and Found using elements of various of these programs-The Amazing Race, Survivor and probably others. This isn't a behind the scenes look at these programs, really, but rather a subtle satire about contemporary life. The characters, all part of two member teams participating in a world-wide scavenger hunt, are generally well-developed and likeable-and they all have their secrets, their axes to grind.

Lost and Found is an entertaining book that works even better in the audio format. A few weeks ago I read "The Nobodies Album" by Carolyn Parkhurst and found it so engaging that I downloaded her earlier novel, Lost and Found. I was not disappointed. From School Library Journal. Adult/High School–Heres a fast-paced novel featuring a reality TV show that is like The Amazing Race and Treasure Hunt combined. Again I found her plot and characters so interesting - and a truly different concept. The novel is built around an "Amazing Race" type of reality-TV show.

Gorgeously written and patently original. her earlier novel, Lost and Found. . .I was not disappointed. Again I found her plot and characters so interesting - and a truly different concept. The novel is built around an "Amazing Race" type of reality-TV show. It could have been abrupt or unsettling (to me, as I like a linear storyline)as it moves between all the various characters - but it was not. . .her plot and character development worked quite well. It's funny and sad. . .and the
characters range from a mother-daughter team, to brothers, to a born-again couple who have disavowed their
homosexuality, . . .and so on. It was such an enjoyable, well-written book w/ an unusual premise. . .I guess,
following on Nobodies Album, which again was a novel conceit - I'm very impressed w/ Carolyn Parkhurst.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Dogs of Babel and I applaud the author for stepping out of the mold and trying a different approach in this novel. And I can not say that this novel was not well-executed. Parkhurst is a very talented writer. The premise is topical and relevant, the dialog is interesting. The idea of writing each chapter in the voice of a different character is a great one. Unfortunately for me, keeping track of all the characters was a bit difficult which meant that at the beginning of many chapters, though the character's name is evident, I often had no idea which one was speaking and often confused two or more. Still, I look forward to her next effort.

Secrets and lies, hiding who we are, trusting ourselves, taking chances, allowing vulnerability, are the many nuances within the pages of Lost and Found. I found the characters believable, though some I didn't like very much. But that's the beauty of the book. I'm not a fan of reality tv, because really how much "reality" is actually in there. But I enjoyed the premise of it all. I'd enjoy a sequel, I'd love to find out what happens to Cassie and Laura. I recommend this book. It's a great escape, I got to visit some really cool places and I didn't have to buy a plane ticket.

The fictitious producers of this fictitious program have selected many of them to manipulate their stories (and thus the viewing audience) to their advantage, but that is something Parkhurst never does to her characters or her readers. She certainly pokes fun at all of them, exposes their foibles and flaws--but their stories (teenage pregnancy, sick child, has-been child star, among others) are told well. Parkhurst focuses on the pain of growing older, of watching your children grow up, of looking back on your own past--all extremely well. This is a highly entertaining, quick read that I should appeal to reality TV viewers, as well as the general reading public. Enjoy

Wouldn't recommend this to any one not on a vacation. Its mindless and fun, albeit pretty offensive to the lgbt community. The authors fascination with gay characters was a bit off putting - as if the author them selve was struggling with whether gays are OK or not. A tad obsessed with that theme. But I suppose maybe the "reality show" fakeness of life and people was what the author was trying to highlight?

Kendis
Although defiantly not great literature, the author has once again written an interesting story. She has the ability to explain the minds of people who have many different issues, and make it entertaining.

Most enjoyable book. It held my attention all the way through with lots of twists and turns. For those who love the reality shows on television, this is a must read.

A most creative and interesting premise!! I absolutely LOVE every single book by this author and she reinvents the wheel with each book!! She changes verbiage and prospective and her voice with each book. She is like the Meryl Streep of authors!!!
