Bones In London book. I thought Edgar Wallace was a mystery writer, not a comic writer of Wodehousian vintage. I had read two of his mysteries before and they were amusingly bad, whereas this comedy was seriously funny! As one of Bones's reverse fallguys wonders, "This fellow is either as wide as Broad Street or he's a babe in arms.

The Standard History Of The War - Volume 3. The Standard History Of The War - Volume 2. There was a slump in the shipping market, and men who were otherwise decent citizens wailed for one hour of glorious war, when Kenyon Line Deferred had stood at 88 1/2, and even so poor an organization as Siddons Steam Packets Line had been marketable at 3 3/8. Two bareheaded men came down the busy street, their hands thrust intotheir trousers pockets, their sleek, well-oiled heads bent in dejection.

Richard Horatio Edgar Wallace (1875-1932) was a prolific British crime writer, journalist and playwright, who wrote 175 novels, 24 plays, and countless articles in newspapers and journals. Edgar Wallace was born in Yarmouth, Greenwich, Norfolk. His biological parents were actors Richard Horatio Edgar (who never knew of his existence) and Mary Jane "Polly" Richards, nee Blair. Known as Richard Freeman, Edgar had a happy childhood, forming an especially close bond with 20-year-old Clara Freeman who became like a second mother to him. His foster-father George Freeman was an honourable and kind man and determined to ensure Richard received a good education. He is most famous today as the co-creator of "King Kong", writing the early screenplay and story for the movie, as well as a short story "King Kong" (1933) credited to him and Draycott Dell. He was known for the J. G. Reeder detective stories, The Four Just Men, The Ringer, and for creating the Green Archer character during his lifetime. His other works include: The Angel of Terror (1922), The Clue of the Twisted Candle (1916), and The Daffodil Mystery (1920).

I enjoy reading classic stories and this one keeps an interest in the principal character . I would reccomend it to all classic lovers.

I love this type of story! Nice bit of romance. If you liked this, you will probably like 'Chick', its kinda the same deal. Not rags to riches, but something like that. Also, 'The Duke in the Suburbs', too.

This is a fun books to read. Goes along with the Sander Series.

The issue here is not the Edgar Wallace story, which, while not the strongest of the "Sanders" novels, rounds out the stories of the main characters (Bones/Tibbets, Hamilton and Sanders) nicely. The issue is this sub-amateurish printing. Not only is it simply a stack of 8 1/2" x 11" sheets bound as a paperback; but the chosen font is Courier. Courier! Of all the lame fonts to choose. Hey, it's not 1980! There are other choices out there; and nearly all are easier to read and better looking. No publisher uses Courier as the main font of a book for good reasons. Truly unbelievable. Just to add more insult to the mess: paragraphs are not indented, just separated by blank lines; the text of the last page of each chapter is vertically centered on the sheet, even if it is just three or four lines long, which is disconcerting; the title page consists simply of the title and author in the same font size as the text itself. The edition most closely resembles the work of a marginally competent high-schooler with no sense of aesthetics.

These faults are completely unnecessary. A few seconds of thought and a few mouse clicks would improve the imprint dramatically. A little more effort with the printer and binder would produce a perfectly respectable edition. Based on my assumption that all their releases suffer from the same lack of professionalism, I recommend avoiding all Filiquarian Publishing products (identifiable by their excruciatingly plain black and white covers and the ironic "High Quality Paperback" in large letters at the top), unless there are no alternatives available whatsoever. Without exaggeration, I would prefer a foxed, water-stained and roughly-used copy.

It is truly sad that this well-intentioned effort to re-issue a classic novel has been so needlessly wasted.

This book is simply great. Love the Africa series of Wallace, including the other books. Mr Bones is one of my favorit persons in this book. Close to be slapstick.

I hoped this would be a pleasant period piece but was most disappointed by the slow pace of the book and the excessive wordiness.

Quirky! A bit old-fashioned in the writing in some places, but it holds up through the decades. It was recommended by a character in the Dorothy Martin series by Jeanne Dams. I wanted to know what she was talking about, so I read it!
