Earthfall homecoming, . 0. From me he learned this, thought Nafai, and then he realized that he was the one who made the book and wrote in it the story of his life, of the life and acts of all the people in this community, their evil deeds and their heroic ones, their times of doubt and their astonishing achievements. And this man, this leader, this king, he looked into the book and found stories in it, tales that made clear to him what he must do, wisdom that stiffened his resolve, love that taught him compassion, hopes that led to noble actions even when the hopes themselves were unfulfilled.

The Ships of Earth, third in Orson Scott Card’s Homecoming Saga, brings its ill-assorted band of pilgrims/refugees far from the previous book’s civic strife. That’s what they had been told upon going to sleep in the suspended-animation chambers-when you wake up, it will be Earth. Oykib, however, already knew that he would be waking long before then s not surprised that instead. Oykib, however, already knew that he would be waking long before then s not surprised that instead of normal gravity, he seemed unbelievably light and strong, each step sending him bounding up to touch the ceiling. That’s the way it was in space, when instead of a planet to hold you down, you had only the acceleration of the ship.

The storyline is relatively decent. Not as great as the Xenocide/Ender universe, but pretty good.

Other than claiming human civilization is only 10k yrs old, most of the universe in this series is fairly consistent with itself and with possibility.

The characters are fairly well developed, and overall it flows fairly easily.

The problem I have is that there are OCR errors all through these books which is an unacceptable editing quality for any format of book. Also, the maps and similar front matter are not high enough resolution to pick out all of the details from the original graphics.

These limitations come across as disrespectful to the author and to the audience.

This book, just like all the others in this series, is great for many reasons, but what I especially liked about this particular one was the greater role played by the angels and the diggers. In getting to know the digger/angel people (particualarly Pto and Poto) on a personal level, a whole new demension is added to the story. All of the original characters continue to act just like you'd expect them to, so something new was needed and Card provided it with the introduction of the angels and diggers and their societies. I really liked how all of the events in this book unfolded and the next book promises to hold lots of excitment. Shedemei as somekind of "Mother Earth" and Nafai and Elemak as the angel's and the digger's kings, with war on the way. I only hope that the last few pages of this book are not literal because that would mean that the next book would contain none of the old characters at all, but instead would take place sometime in the distant future when only legends and stories survive from all that has happened so far.

Long story, just to find out it is a set up for the Joseph Smith legend and the golden plates. I do appreciate that OSC keeps his Mormon faith out of his stories, but he slipped on this one. this is a Space version of the Mormon expansion to Salt Lake... it was very long, very wordy, lame plot lines, and the trick ending was the last straw. stupid.

I think this is the last one? I dunno I read everything but the last five or so pages of the last book in the series, which this one may or may not be, and I'd say overall I liked it. It's a bit heavy handed with the allegory I think, ya know its been like three years since I read these books so I can't say with all certainty what the book was about, leaving a planet to colonize on another one I think. Anyway, if you read everything but the last five pages of the last book you'll be fine, anymore than that and you'll need to read another review.

Being. Big fan of most of Cards work, I've enjoyed this series a lot. Being Mormon, of course I knew what was up right away but I still love the adaptation. I thought for. Short Tim's about weather I felt hits works to be any kind of blasphemous but I really don't. I've felt number of times before that big works are strongly inspired by faith and I like that about him.

A great series - Although I greatly en joyed the Ender series I think this series is really Card's best effort- A great read !

Thank you, Orson. I thoroughly enjoy all of your work and you definitely did not disappoint with this series. I can't wait for Shadows Alive!
