Johnny Lonely won the 2004 New Writing North Fresh Fiction Prediction, and the 2007 Tonto Books First Novel Prize. Pete Tanton is currently completing his second novel, An Englishman in Rocket City, about what happens when a young Oxford graduate goes to Alabama in the 1950s to work on the Space Programme. Hopefully, it's a comedy as well, with lashings of fact thrown in for good measure.

Lonely" is a song co-written and recorded by American singer Bobby Vinton. The song was first released on Vinton's 1962 album Roses Are Red. Vinton began writing the song while serving in the Army. The song describes a soldier who is sent overseas and has no communication with his home. The singer laments his condition and wishes for someone to talk with.

The Lonely Phone Booth,' the first children's book by Peter Ackerman, a screenwriter and playwright, takes a more intimate look at a slice of life in a New York City neighborhood. In a happenstance befitting this warm, quirky story, it turns out that the author and I reside in the same building just a few blocks from the real phone booth, at 100th Street and West End Avenue, that inspired his book. The Lonely Phone Book is a delightful story about a real phone booth at the corner of 100th Street and West End Avenue on the upper west side of NYC. The illustrations, as well as the story, are charming and very appealing to people of all ages.

Pete Tanton, 39, speaks with a soft . Pete's first novel, Johnny Lonely was published last year when he beat more than 400 others to get it published. Nine times out of 10, you know the best route for your book, but for that other time having a mentor is a great asset.

Pete Tanton, 39, speaks with a soft, Southern American accent and smiles enthusiastically. On this gloomy, grey January morning it is hard to imagine anyone could be happy with the cold drizzle outsidem - but it is also strangely pleasing. The 2008 scheme will see the publication of two novelists' new works and offer an important mentoring aspect. Although Pete is from the Deep South of America, he has family roots in County Durham.

Meet Hughie Youngkin, trapped in Southern California's worst ever firestorm, a smalltown loser with nothing but a stolen mariachi outfit and a battered guitar case. His hopes of becoming a rockstar are in ruins and he's beginning to wish he'd never left Big Springs, Alabama. But his home town doesn't understand him, the girl he loved has left, and his overbearing mother chews over his shortcomings with her Hungryman's portions of barbequed beef at Webster's Steakhouse. So Hughie does what any Johnny Lonely would do; he takes off to find his estranged brother and chase the American Dream. 'Atmospheric, believable, much more than just a good read.' - Denise Robertson MBE, novelist and agony aunt 'Reading Johnny Lonely is funnier than watching a drunk falling over and more poignant than realizing that you're dead.' - Jonathan Trigell, author Boy A and Cham
Very entertaining and quick read.
Captured North Alabama social life.
Touches both young adult and his parents views on life.
I laughed out loud.
recommend highly.

Johnny Lonely is a great read by a talented new author, Pete Tanton.
Mr. Tanton develops such an emotional depth of the character, Johnny Lonely, who in reality is very immature and shallow. Not an easy task for a writer. Everyone can relate to the ackward insecurities of adolescence, and the uncertainty of finding a future path for one's life.
Tanton's writing style is so compelling and humanistic that you will find yourself waiting for the sequel.
