Ok, so it's well edited and nicely packaged as a story-telling device. It really goes over the previous 1,000 years and the twenty-odd things that really influence German culture and history. If you are into Germany, or desiring to understand more about how things got to being the way they are....I'd suggest the book. Now, there are facts, names, and places mentioned.....and this bores the typical non-history person. But you kinda need to piece together the whole thing, to grasp why certain things occur a hundred years or 500 years later.

For a high school student? No. I'd suggest it for college-level, or someone who has married into a German situation.

A good high level summary of German history from approximately 1500 to 1900. The book spent much more time on the Reformation issues around 1525. I would have liked more details on the 1870 - 1900 era, and less information on the Reformation era. All in all, a good summary book for someone with limited knowledge of German history.

80% of the book was 1400 to 1500. Very little on more recent times and glossed over at that. Would not recommend it for a good idea of what formed German culture up to First World War.

I rarely give a book such a review. It is very possible that it's a good book but the English isn't understandable at all .It's probably 18th century English, so if you understand, then I'm sure it will be worth your while.

Bloodray
Gives a good account of the German people, but does not contain profound information I was looking for that would express their feelings of beginning to wars and its after effects.

WOw. This free book is really interesting and educational even for people like me. It's not boring at all Once you finish the first part, you'll get even more interested with the next. It's written very simply so it's not hard to understand and absorb.

Dorintrius
Very interesting read

A little "dry" even for a German.
