The Simple Truth book. Book by Hardwick, Elizabeth. Unfortunately, I didn’t think this novel lived up to either of these recommendations.

Simple Truth (Virago Modern Classics).

Elizabeth Hardwick (1916–2007) was born in Lexington, Kentucky, and educated at the University of Kentucky and Columbia University. A recipient of a Gold Medal from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, she is the author of three novels, a biography of Herman Melville, and four collections of essays. The Simple Truth (Virago Modern Classics). I am puzzled that Hardwick has no essays about American protest literature, or any reformulation images. She does not write about any African-American writer, and I wonder about this omission.

Elizabeth Hardwick (July 27, 1916 – December 2, 2007) was an American literary critic, novelist, and short story writer. Hardwick was born in Lexington, Kentucky on July 27, 1916 to a strict and large Protestant family. She was the daughter of Eugene Allen Hardwick, a plumbing and heating contractor, and Mary (née Ramsey) Hardwick. She graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1939. She was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1947.
