Penelope Vincenzi (née Hannaford; 10 April 1939 – 25 February 2018) was a British novelist, who wrote 17 novels and 2 collections of stories. Her sales by 2014 amounted to over 7 million copies. She was born Penelope Hannaford, on 10 April 1939 in Bournemouth, the daughter of Stanley George Hannaford (died 1985) and Mary Blanche Hannaford nee Hawkey (died 1987) of New Milton, Hampshire. She was an only child, with "the most ordinary background you could possibly imagine".

She is the author of two humorous books and eleven previous novels. Penny Vincenzi is married with four daughters.

I love love love Penny Vincenzi novels. She writes about families...and the way she writes. The characters in this book were interesting, charming, evil, loving, unpredictable, selfish...about every adjective you can think of. The author always throws a twist which makes the book even more appealing. I have yet to read one of her novels including this one that I was glad that it ended. The book has a lot of pages but when you're reading something that holds your interest...it's not long enough. Enjoy...you will.

Loved all the characters and character development. Vincenzi is known for her family sagas,which I love! The twists and turns of the story between an American and British family kept you turning the pages! I did find myself kind of skimming and skipping the details of all the stock crash chapter but realize it was important to wrapping up the story. I thought Alexander should have been exposed for more of his treachery. There were hints in the background now and then of his deceit and dangerous, possibly deadly antics but it was not really exposed. I would have liked the family to have had a more obvious realization of the deceit and come together more obviously triumphant in the end. I thought for all the intense story twists and turns that the ending was wrapped up a bit too quickly, almost as if the author suddenly tired of the story and wanted it to be over. Even with that said, I love Vincenzi's epic novels and would still highly recommend this for a great read !!

The rating system makes me choose between a very positive rating and one that does not quite do this novel justice. It is very readable, and of its type, one of the better works. The characters are well developed within the context of this genre, with their actions grounded in understandable conflicts and events. They are self made, wealthy, have hearty sexual appetites in most cases and, in true popular novel style live for the moment, have a limited range of interests. However, Vincenze always writes a novel that races along and provides great holiday reading.

As in paperback the novel is typically very fat, a kindle edition is really the way to go!

Normally I always give this author 5 stars, while this one was good and kept my interest it fell a bit short of her previous efforts. The story line kept you guessing why the heroines behavior was as I was and not until the very last did we find out the real pathology of the main character. Altogether a very good read and I wilol continue following this author.

The novel was too long and too predictable. If it had been condensed to 400 pages, it might have had some merit. The relationships involved too much drama. It started off well, but around page 500, I just wanted it to be over.

I started WICKED PLEASURES three times before I actually read it. Have no idea why I felt that way and still can't figure out why I didn't enjoy this book as much as previous Vincenzi novels. That's not unusual with a favorite author -- you can't hit a home run every time at bat. Still, even a less-than-her-best Vincenzi novel is worth the time and money invested, and WICKED PLEASURES was no exception. Vincenzi does impeccable research and always gives you fascinating information about her settings and the professions and businesses of her characters. And, of course, the books are always filled with juicy scandals, dramas, and characters. They're fun to read, even when you're shaking your head over some of the characters' antics. Now I'm looking forward to Vincenzi's newest, which arrived in my mailbox a couple of weeks ago but which I've been saving for a rainy day.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end. Very strong characters , good story line, kept you guessing. I think with Penny Vincenzi you have to get used to her style of writing and be patient, sometimes you have to wait for all to be revealed. Really worth the wait, great book.

i loved penny vincenzi's lytton family trilogy. sheer abandon and other books so i was excited to read this family saga. sadly it appears that the author is trying to keep up with 50 shades of gray. this book has none of the charm of her other novels. just shallow and borderline trashy. characters are underdeveloped. story lines are left incomplete. the last 20% of the book seems like a half hearted attempt to just wrap things up. totally disappointng. i expect better quality from this author. would never recommend this book to friends.
