To begin with, I always rate books based on the type of book. This is imaginative fiction, and it's a good example of such. I don't compare across genres and audiences - literary fiction this is certainly not, but it's fun to read.
I give two stars for the condition of the used book, which I would not have rated as Good if I were selling it. It is readable, but it has moisture damage, with some page wrinkling and a little mildew on the bottom edge.
I bought the book because I'd read it in the past, and wanted to re-read one story in it for the uniqueness of the characters. It is typical Stephen Coonts, good writing for its type. As a collection of future combat tales, the tendency to "hyper-explain" the technology is sometimes over the top, but fun. For the genre, I'd actually say it rates about 3-1/2 stars.

X-MEN

it was a collection of SHORT stories, which I did not realize, The last two were weak, but the others were quite good. Since they were shorter stories, I noted the authors and have since started reading books by them. Several of the authors are well known,, but a few were new to me and I'll start reading more of them. There were tank battles, submarines, space conflicts, warplanes, and others. The variety was good. Some of the short stories were fairly long. I did not give it 5 stars because a few of the stories were weak. I do like "combat" fiction.

This book has something for everyone. I was very pleased with the forward, and the stories that followed were terrific. If you like military fiction and are interested in where things might be headed, order this book. I'm not one to give complete praise, and there were one or two stories that even though I read them, they weren't my cup of tea. But that is what makes an anthology great, there's always something in there for you.
I will note that most of these stories almost scream out to be expanded into full length novels. I would certainly buy any book that was expanded from my favorites in this anthology. This is the kind of stuff that keeps people like me buying books.

A collection of stories, ten in all, each written by some of the finest authors on a wide variety of topics but all describing aspects of the same concept. This is a work well worth reading. Thank you Stephen Coonts as well as each of the contributors.

Every story was worth the time. Great insight into a troubled world of war. Four stars because it is somewhat dated.

Multiple stories from multiple authors...some were great, some, not so much!

It only looses a star because many of the great stories could be expanded on and made into great novels. This is my favorite genre. (military action fiction) that sadly is lacking a torch bearer right now. This of the three has in my opinion the best stories in it.
