Originally published in 1996. Years later Amy would remember the day she saw inside the spider house. She knew as soon as the family came out of the church that they wouldn’t be going for a drive.

Originally published in 1996. Half an hour ago she’d seen the rusted moor over the yellowish cottages of Partington, but now the late October sky had fallen on it, or rather a fog had. Above the marketplace surrounded by dark grey roofs pinched steep, and beneath the hem of the fog attached to the sky, the hulk of a building riddled with black windows squatted in its park.

Nazareth Hill is a powerful and moving novel featuring many of the qualities that make Ramsey Campbell so. .The book is a spin on the old haunted house format, with As loathe as I am to mark down one of my favourite authors, I think that Campbell's best writing is in the short story format.

Nazareth Hill is a powerful and moving novel featuring many of the qualities that make Ramsey Campbell so good. His longer work, such as this novel, feels more episodic and a bit constrained at times by the format.

The House on Nazareth Hill is a creepy and nostalgic story that is an absolute must for fans of slightly cheesy, traditional style horror. Ramsey Campbell's narrative style reminds me of James Herbert, who is responsible for my love of the horror genre as I read The Dark when I was knee high to a grasshopper, and it hooked me right in. That's where my horror journey started and I've never looked back. Initially, this had a slow start, with lots of character development and Aah, that was so good!

Ramsey Campbell has been hailed as a master of the psychological novel; his ability to convey the twists and turns of the human mind is unparalleled in modern fiction. Through the struggles, failures, and triumphs of Campbell's characters, we see the best and the worst of the human race. In Nazareth Hill, Campbell focuses on a small, highly dysfunctional family-a teenage girl and her father.

Amy Priestly has always dreaded 'the spider house, ' as she privately calls the abandoned Nazareth Hill monastery.

A rebellious teenager's tense relationship with her father liberates fearsome monsters of English history. When she and her father, Oswald, move into an apartment in the newly gentrified 'Nazarill, ' her fears are reinforced by the building's gloom-crawly things seem to crouch in its shadowy hallways.

The Long Lost (1993). The One Safe Place (1995). The House on Nazareth Hill (1996) (AKA Nazareth Hill). The Last Voice They Hear (1998). Silent Children (2000).

The book included reminiscences and appreciations of authors such as John Brunner, Bob Shaw and K. W. Jeter, and an extensive, negative critique of Shaun Hutson's Heathen, parodying Hutson's style. He is married to the former Jenny Chandler; has two children, Tamsin and Matthew; and still lives on Merseyside. The Long Lost (1993).

I thought this book was great. Ramsey Campbell is one of the best horror writers with a very original unusual way of expressing his words on the written page. His characters seem to view the world as a very strange and sinister place indeed. This is one of his best along with his other novel Incarnate. It centres around the claustrauphobic world of a teenage girl who moves into a building that was previously a mental hospital and is very creepy indeed. She is rebellious and headstrong and often clashes with her father. Everything in her world is unsure and she feels very alienated. She feels strongly the building is evil and she's not the only one. A great novel full of suspence and creepy atmosphere. Well worth reading
