Michael John Noonan OAM (19 September 1921 in Sumner, near Christchurch, New Zealand - 4 March 2000 in Brisbane) was an Australian, New Zealand novelist and radio script writer. He also created the Australian TV series Riptide. Noonan served with the Second Australian Imperial Force in New Guinea during World War II. He moved to England in 1957 but returned frequently to Australia and returned there to live in Brisbane in 1979.

Michael Noonan (1921-2000), novelist, author of children's books, scriptwriter and playwright, had work published, produced, and broadcast all over the world in a career spanning 50 years. His first published book, In the Land of the Talking Trees, was written while he was on active service in New Guinea with the AIF. After being discharged, he studied Art at the National Gallery, Melbourne, and humanities at University of Sydney. Noonan first became established as a radio script writer.
