This is the second Olivia Wood's book about iliana Ghemor in the Deep Space 9 Trek universe. After reading Olivia Woods previous book, "Fearful Symmetry", I was looking forward to reading her sequel, "The Soul Key". I was NOT disappointed!!!! I don't want to give the plot away. This one takes place predominantly in the alternate universe and is a continuation in the DS9 series.

Shing-kur told her visitor. Ghemor stood with her arms folded outside the holding cell, staring at the Kressari, acutely aware of the nearby Bajoran guards who were watching them both. You must have me mistaken for someone else, Ghemor said. Shing-kur’s eyes, conveying pleasure, resembled orbs of obsidian glass. She sat in repose on the bench against the back wall of her cell. Oh, I think I read you well enough, Iliana

This is the second Olivia Wood's book about iliana Ghemor in the Deep Space 9 Trek universe. This one takes place predominantly in the alternate universe and is a continuation in the DS9 series. Olivia Woods did a fabulous job shaping the iliana ghemor character, telling her story that was begging to be told. All your favorite DS9 characters make an appearance in this book, some being limited to the alternate universe and I will say nothing else lest I spoil this stories surprises! I've never been a huge fan of the alternate universe in DS9 but this author made me a fan. I will say this book kept me hooked the entire way through, I highly recommend it and I hope to see more DS9 books by this author in the future.

Solid continuation and conclusion of the story begun in "Fearful Symmetry". If you read that book and hated it, don't read this one; if you read that book and liked it, you'll need to read this one to see how it all comes out. If you haven't read that one yet, DON'T read this one before you do, and I wouldn't read either if you aren't a fan of Deep Space 9 from either the show or previous books; it won't stand on its own without a familiarity with the background. But for a fan of the series, the two are definitely a worthwhile read.

I've read over 100 Star Trek books, and nearly all the DS9 ones, and I found myself needing to take notes while reading this book. The Alternate Universe, as portrayed in the show, was interesting because it showed our heroes (Most notably Kira and Smiley O'Brien) in much different circumstances than we'd see in the normal story line. The producers knew this was actually the point, so they kept the Alternate Universe stories somewhat simple.

Perhaps Ms. Woods was tasked with wring an Alternate Universe novel for DS9, but either way, it was a failure. This book is nearly impossible for a long-term fan to follow, with lots of Kiras to try to follow around, a confusing plot, and a lot of focus on the AU characters, and not on the characters we want to see -- the mainstream DS9 ones.

To be fair, the writing is competent and fine, but this is a DS9 book that's barely a DS9 book, not even sharing a history that I recognize, and needed a roadmap to follow. For hardcore DS9 fans only.

I thought I'd open my review of "The Soul Key" by Olivia Woods with a comment that I felt the entire story arc (which comes to an end in this book) seemed a bit contrived. At the end of "Unity", you get the sense that some fantastic plot is forming and it'll make for a great story. Unfortunately, "Soul Key" and the books before it tell a pretty overcomplicated tale of the revenge of a madwoman.

I was disappointed by the story because as with "Unity", the ending seemed rush and "The Soul Key" seemed to jump all over the place trying to wrap things up. The plot line with Taran'atar was anticlimactic and the resolution of the main plot line still left some questions of motivation of the characters unanswered.

I suppose as part of the overall series they all can't be winners, and lord knows the TV show had the same problems every now and then. Because this is a continuation of the Deep Space Nine universe, the book shouldn't be missed.. but it's by no means a page turner.

This new book by Oliva Woods was as bad if not worse than her last book. The characters are bland and the story weak. Keeping up with the Kira's was almost impossible. I just really didn't enjoy one part of the book. No thrill to keep you reading. No characters to love or hate because none had any personality. Don't waste your money or your time.

After reading Olivia Woods previous book, "Fearful Symmetry", I was looking forward to reading her sequel, "The Soul Key". I was NOT disappointed!!!! I don't want to give the plot away. Suffice it to say, based on the cliff-hanger ending, I'm looking forward to reading the next installment!!! I'm hoping I don't have to wait too long!

I've been a trekkie (not treker) since the 60's...Read every genre. But I have to say, I had a real hard time keeping up with this one. Too many universes and too many incarnations of Kira and her counterparts. I wouldn't recommend it for someone who was not familiar with the Star Trek alternate universe theme. It's easy to get lost.
