Having absolutely loving book 1, Atlantis, I decided to pick up Crusader Gold by David Gibbins, book 2 in the Jack Howard series. It continues the story of the underwater archaeologist Jack Howard as he travels the globe pursuing a myriad of different archaeology mysteries with his ragtag band of friends and fellow experts.

Mr. Gibbins has done it again! Or should I say, Jack Howard has done it again? I have actually followed this story on Google Earth, and it's almost as if I were there on the deck of 'SeaQuest II', just as excited, just as awe-struck, just as worried as is the rest of Jack's crew. The adventures Jack leads us on far outshine the single flint arrow point I found one day in West Texas, and are vastly more dangerous than the day my son and I uncovered a 100 million year old dinosaur footprint in a state park in central Texas. Yet, the best that I can hope for is that Jack and crew continue to provide Mr. Gibbins with many more great exciting adventures that he might 'document' for us to live.. uh.. I mean read. This story is intense! I could feel the frigid grip of the iceberg right along with Jack and Costas. I have been 'captured' by several authors I have read in the past, but never to the extent as I have by Mr. Gibbins. To actually 'feel the cold' as the ice closed in on Jack... Oh! My! That's a good 'capture'! I just hope that when I put the book down, I am back in my chair, sans wet-suit, safe and comfortable, with 'real' memories. (But, if I were to find an IMU diver's knife on the desk.....)

This was a great airplane read. It seems a bit more fantastic and a stretch of the imagination than some of his other works.

However, I will continue to read his stuff -- entertainment and a bit of historical information too.

I like books with a good plot and some history mix fact and speculation. Kept my interest. This is part of a series and most so far are pretty good.

A very interesting read for those who like historical fiction! Obviously not for everyone but if you like Crusader history and Norse mythology with a little Nazi history and Mayan sacrificial lore thrown in for good measure, this will be the book for you! He mixes a bit of Clive Cussler-style adventure in also! I actually liked this one better than Atlantis; that one seemed even more "over the top". He does get a bit detailed with the technology (ships, guns, etc.) which can make it drag a bit!
