In Ancestral Notes, these two themes converge: dreams serve as the point of connection between myself and my ancestral spirits, who then demand a statement of solidarity between past and future in recognition of the universal and timeless struggles of humanity. The collages contained within, while created specifically for this work, are none-the-less extensions of previous efforts. Dreams serve as the launching point, juxtaposed contemporary images as the vehicle. Ancestral Notes is not an historical document, but the chronicle of a personal awakening.

Dream journal entries, poems, essays, short stories, and a drama based on the author's investigations into her family history and cultural identity. She explores the themes of Jewish spirituality, shtetl life in Europe, immigration to the USA, and men's and women's traditional roles.

By (author) Zelda Leah Gatuskin, Illustrated by Linda Mae Tratechaud. And how can helping Muffin help Claire bring all the pieces of her life together and give her the courage to dream about the future? WHERE THE SKY USED TO BE is a story of art, love, compassion, and following your own path.

Based on the author's investigations, and feelings about, her family history and cultural identity. Ancestral Notes explores the themes of Jewish spirituality and mysticism, shtetl life in Europe, immigration to the USA, the legacy of antisemitism and gender notes, in the search for a contemporary Jewish woman's identity. Dream Journal entries and repeated references to spirits convey the sense that this inquiry is not only guided but demanded by ancestral souls. The resulting journey blurs the lines between mystical and mundane, personal and political, tragic and comic, culminating in a Yidish-style parable about fear and intolerance. Illustrated with original collages by the author.
