Journey to the Corrida book.

Journey to the Corrida book. In "Journey to the Corrida," his ninth book of poems, we see again the unmistakable Junkins poise and persistence in pursuit of suppressed connections, hidden emotions, and runaway home truths. Stylistic brilliance enables him to capture the slow accretion, the sudden jolt, the sheer thrill of the mind grasping what is simultaneously happening within and outside itself.

A Book Called Rats is a stunning collection, full of dark eroticism and haunting images that pull the reader into a world both beautiful and dangerous. The human condition doesn't change, but suddenly, in this sensuous, charged book with its perfect music, we are fascinated anew. ―Beckian Fritz Goldberg. Miguel Murphy's always exceptional poems are invariably interesting and often surprising, perhaps even to himself, finding a symbiosis with contemporary narrative that is both compelling and disturbing. Consistently singular, edgy, and haunting, these pieces operate.

An incredible book! A beautiful story so moving that it stays in the mind constantly. He spent much of his time traveling and gathering material for his books, but always returned to the comfortable old stone house for the actual writing. It is a gem to be treasured! The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He liked the house to himself during these creative periods, and for many years had enjoyed an ideal arrangement whereby his domestic wants were cared for by a middle-aged couple, Mrs. Oakes and her husband Bert, who lived in a small cottage about half a mile away. Mrs. Oakes came in every day to look after the house and cook the main meals.

"In Journey to the Corrida, his ninth book of poems, we see again the unmistakable Junkins poise and persistence in pursuit of suppressed connections, hidden emotions, and runaway home truths. Stylistic brilliance enables him to capture the slow accretion, the sudden jolt, the sheer thrill of the mind grasping what is simultaneously happening within and outside itself. Poems that begin as benign or quirky intimations in a real landscape he sees through to some haunting destinations, always mindful of his own newly-minted proverb: 'In dreams the dead talk / straight to the heart.' Junkins's Corrida is a gutsy and elegant performance. May the judges award it two ears and a tail." -Robert Bagg

"Ole! and both ears to Don for his book!" -Barnaby Conrad
