Margaret Wise Brown was born in Brooklyn, NY. While working as a teacher at the Bank Street Experimental School, she started writing books for children. Margaret was a prolific writer, over a 100 of her stories were published as picture books during her lifetime. Posthumously several stories were at publishers ready for publication. During her life time she also wrote articles about writing for children, adapted classics, ghost wrote stories and many of her stories appear in anthologies.

GREAT GRANDS LOVED THEIR BOOKS

Phallozs Dwarfs
A collection of 25 poems for younger children in a relatively short book (pages are not numbered). The poems are of varying lengths and mixed quality. The illustrations are large and well drawn, but lack the bright colors which would have made them more interesting. Overall, it will provide some good selections for reading to children.

Granddaughter loves it...fast ship...in good shape thank you

The illustrations are stunning and the poems chosen are ones I like; but I didn't realize I was getting just selections from the original 1959 book. I miss the fish with the deep sea smile and the onion and..........

Villo
Adorable book!

Originally I borrowed this book from the library to read to my granddaughters - I think it was 3 years ago. They are now 6 and 7 years old. We take turns reading - almost singing the words of this beautifully written poetic book together. It is a classic and brings us to a place of comfort. This is a book they wanted for keeps.

Stonewing
"Nibble Nibble" features five poems excerpted from Margaret Wise Brown's classic collection of twenty-five, first published in 1959 under the same title. The poems are given new life by Wendell Minor's fresh paintings. At each page turn, the bunnies' eyes sparkle with light; fine textured fur and delicate ears entice a reader's fingers to stroke the pages.
Truth be told, the five poems in "Nibble Nibble" appear to be selected for their common thematic link rather than for intrinsic poetic quality, which is uneven. The driving beat and compulsive repetition of the title poem beg children to join in with toe tapping and hand clapping. After five rollicking stanzas, a quieter sixth adds meaning to the medley. Conversely, chanting "Song of the Bunnies" is difficult due to a rhythmic hiccup or two, although plenteous sibilant S and Z sounds make it fun to read aloud.
The simple, satisfying "Hop Skip Jump" is perfect for very young children and may well be the first poem a toddler memorizes. Beneath the gently repetitive structure, a subtle logic shapes lines into story. The soothing beauty of "Song of Summer" is ideal for parent and child to whisper at close of day.
