I read "WLT" before purchasing this audiobook. After a few chapters I knew I would enjoy it more when told by the author, and I wasn't disappointed. As Keillor himself might say, it's a pretty good book, made even better by his resonant, wry delivery.

Typical Keillor. As is usually the case, Mr. Keillor shows that he is an excellent student of the human condition. Made me wonder just how many of the episodes/instances in the book actually happened in radio studios during the early years of radio.

The ribald antics which flow through Mr. Keillor's tribute to old-time radio is not his typical fare. He somehow successfully pulls off a combination of down-home humor and sexual exploits without being offensive. Maturity is in short supply for the quirky characters who inhabit the author's world. The chapter entitled "The Long Night" kept me in stitches from beginning to end. Mr. Keillor's humor is a deadpan delivery with just the right touch of playful irony. The feel of the work is much like I imagined E.B. White would have composed after a few snootfuls of moonshine. An absolutely stupendous book.

10/10
Terrific story about the beginnings of radio and how one young man had a life-long love affair with the electronic media..
Very funny, very poignant, very accurate as an historical overview....well worth the time.
The Abridged Audio Book version is almost as good as the Book version, almost, not totally.

I like the romantic story telling of a small radio station through the lives of several people. It is not a sappy good times type of story. All the characters have problems and quirks and not all are likable. It is a story of a time that I can only imagine.

Being active in the world of radio broadcasting myself I was especially curious about this book. I love mister Keillors writings and this book is no exception. Sometime hilarious situations that are in different ways al too accurate about how things work in the radio biz. And I think it more or less offers a good description of how 'radio' came to be what it is today.
If you like mister Keillors other books you will like this one also, no doubt about that.
I can only hope he will write for many more years to come. (And that all his books will become available as e-books!)

Ive read the hard copy, now I wanted a copy on my Kindle. It's the kind of book I can come back to again and again. Great story of an old time radio station in the 40s.
