This is a wonderful book written by my late friend,Jacquie Gordon, wich I admit I could identify with,as during my senior year at a coed private school,I had a crush on one of my teachers. His first name also happend to be Brian. I never owned a copy of the book, rather borrowing it from my library.

Jacquie Gordon is the author of Give Me One Wish, the story of her daughter's struggle with cystic fibrosis. Flanders Point, the winner of the Yale University Willet Prize, is her first novel. Currently completing her bachelor's degree in literature at Yale University, Jacquie Gordon lives in Connecticut. Jacquie Gordon’s books.

In Flanders Point, Jacquie Gordon shows the promise of early Pat Conroy. And the novel conjures up those other coming-of-age classics we all treasure, like A Separate Peace and Catcher in the Rye. Connect with the author. MACMILLAN NEWSLETTER.

OKay, I admit it. I have a problem. I have come to consider myself a connoisseur of the teacher-student love story. The prognosis of Flanders Point? It is the BEST teacher-student love story I have ever had the pleasure of reading.

At first I didn't care for this book because of there were so many disgusting scenes. Then, when I finished reading, it made me think about the jealousy, and crushes I had in school. It made me like the book because I could relate to the character. One reason why I bought it was because I enjoy reading about school, and troubled teens. What I liked about it was that it makes me keep guessing when is Brian going to break down the barrier, and let Charlotte love Brian. When he does break down the barrier, she realizes too he didnt let it all down. Let me explain the orgins of the story briefly. In the exposition, she gets accepted into Haddam Academy by old, frail Miss Haddam. In the rising action, there is always silence between Charlotte, and Brian. Brian ends up apologizing, and Charlotte opens up. She begins to memorize what to say to have every day knowledgable conversations. In the climax, Brian, and Charlotte learn to trust, and believe in each other despite its conflict. There is a lot conflicts in the story they face that you dont want to miss reading. It is interesting it when the romance actually happens between student, and teacher. In the falling resolution, Mrs. Chase is keeping a terrible secret from Charlotte, read the entire book to find out. The book really captures the emotion of the characters. I like the twists it made on the teachers to make you keep reading until the very end. It's a type of romantic novel you cant put it down. It takes six days to read the whole book. I strongly encourage you to read this book as for it is a great life lesson on a troubled growing young woman of want, and needs. If this were a movie, it would be rated R. I never really expected the unexpected in those scenes. The novel is somewhat predictable. Otherwise, it's a good read.

I liked the slow burn of this book, it gave time for the characters to feel for the other. I thought this was nicely written, if anyone is looking for hot passion, this book is not that.

This book was amazing. I love the teacher/student relationship, but what I love most is how well written it was. More often than not, taboo subjects are written in a crude, more erotic manner. With this book is subtle and more believable. Well done.

This was one of the first student teacher romance novels I've read. I'm 26 now, but I found it at a sister library that was selling books for like 50 cents because this book was physically out of print...anyway, I was about 15/sophomore year in my favorite teacher's english class stealthily reading this as i basked in his presence and i fell in love with it...and him more. it is a very chaste read, and nothing physical happens until near the very end-very chaste as well-not a sexy romance book, but an "innocent" love story. I find Brian's and Charlotte's interactions endearing, slow-burning. There are many things that I have to criticize now that I am reading this through adult eyes- but if you're looking for more of a crush, they think the other is special, neither character is very experienced, sweet love story, then this is a great read. I have a sentimental attachment to it, so i might be biased.

here are some things I didn't quite like so much:
this is set in the 1950s, so it isn't current and feels outdated. I was disappointed in this at first, but after reading a few times and liking the book for the elements that appealed to me, this no longer bothered me.
Charlotte is awkward, very inexperienced, it's kind of not believable how she, out of everyone, weaves her way into Brian's heart, but she does.
I like him, although he's not classically attracted, and rather inexperienced as well, but again it works.
Charlotte's relationship with her family is weird and kind of unnecessary-her relationship with her father is perplexing and borderline creepy-i feel like this wasn't important to the story.
the prose was too wordy and loquacious, kind of got annoying, but some of the things she writes, how she crafts certain sentences i adored.
Charlotte lies on top of brian towards the end and she says something like, " I am a tree and your roots are in me" and she falls asleep on top of him...he allows her to sleep and describes the feeling of her body and bones on his and how she sinks into him in such a nice way.
Lastly, the ending is a huge disappointment because the author leaves us wondering what becomes of them both and we never find out. it made me cry for the wrong and right reasons.

all in all, i would suggest this book to someone who can appreciate a solid book , not just trashy romance. just take my advice before diving in and you begin expecting something else entirely.

OKay, I admit it. I have a problem.
The real reason I read books like this one is that I am constantly searching for something that will bring to life my old crush on an Economics teacher of mine. I have come to consider myself a connoisseur of the teacher-student love story.
The prognosis of Flanders Point?
It is the BEST teacher-student love story I have ever had the pleasure of reading. The breakdown in the tension does take a long time in coming, but when it does... ah. It's worth it. Brian is well likable. We identify with Charlotte. And Gordon handles each side of the story with grace and reason in a sometimes dark and unreasonable cliche of a storyline.
Simply put, I loved it. I've read other teacher-student stories like it, "Innocents" by Cathy Coote, "A Kiss Remembered" by Sandra Brown, "Treacherous Love" by Beatrice Sparks, "Pure" by Rebecca Ray. But they just don't create the same emotional attachment to the characters that Gordon has accomplished with Flanders Point.

Flanders Point is a sensitive, fascinating romance, not, as Kirkus would have it, for the juvenile trade, but for anyone who likes good novels about complex relationships. Charlotte Delafield, the heroine, has survived a very unpleasant childhood. At the Haddam school in
Flanders Point, she not only survives but thrives, and the love that develops between
Charlotte and her young English teacher, Brian Parton, is powerful and dangerous. Both
them are young, but both are also strong enough to avoid the dangers. This is a strong,
faascinating story.
